I bet the last two season were no fun. Now some new NCAA upheaval is coming. He doesn't have much left to prove, and probably sees a bunch of new administrative hassles in his future. Good time to GTFO.

ha, I wasn't sure if anyone would catch that. Apparently the sheriff had a velcro zipper, I never picked up on that before.

Yeah Roy's not all that old, but he's had some health issues for sure, I won't miss him but hopefully he's okay.

    Roy Williams retirement?

UNC guy....from Dean Smith to Guthridge to Williams...assuming they stay in family and hire Hubert Davis.

Only guy outside the tree I would be interested to see is Rick Pitino....could add a little fire/edge/defense to the program....but he has said Iona is his “last” job.

Don’t forget the 2 year stint with Matt Doherty between Guthridge and Ole Roy.

Man today just sucks, still hasn't really set in. I grew up in Chapel Hill, went to UNC for undergrad, was lucky enough to be at the 2009 and 2017 championships. I hate that Roy is leaving like this, he deserves to go out with a 10 minute standing ovation in a packed Dean Dome as we blow out the dookies to end the regular season. College basketball just won't be the same.

Being a college basketball coach at a big name school these days must really suck. You get all the good recruits and they leave every year. Must be exhausting. Plus at a school like UNC the pressure to win must be insane.

    Roy Williams retirement?

Also born and raised in Chapel Hill, but a life long Duke fan.
I never got the Roy love.
I grew up playing little league with one of his sons when he was an assistant, and my pops said he was kinda a dick when no spotlight was on him.
Also hear stories about the difference between him and Dean, and how they treated their staff.
Dean being Dean, knew everyone, and treated them all as family. (He even hosted a HS graduation party for my class)
Roy being Roy, treated everyone as his employee.
Is he a good coach, absolutely.
But I also think he’s overrated, and let’s not forget his first championship was with Doherty’s players.

    Plus...his suits suck.

    Agreed.
I never understand why people think guys like that, who’ve built a powerhouse program, and have no affiliation to the school would even entertain the idea of moving.

    Right?

Big East is pretty stacked right now and he’s at the top. I don’t see a reason to bolt.

At the top level, when they've won a championship where they are? Not that often.

With it being a recent championship, yeah, probably not. But great coaches move schools all the time, even when people say what WWCD said. I don't know how much Nova is paying him, but if UNC offers a shitton more? Although usually it's the pros that steal a coach away, not another program.

Saban and Urban Myer come to mind. And Roy himself left Kansas. Pitino can't stay put. Larry Brown was all over the place. But yeah it's more common to go to the pros for sure

That’s a super homer thing to say.

I say while realizing my disagreement is also a super homer thing to say.
