Yes! This is the biggest problem. We need a protocol to insure that kids get their mother’s genes. My wife has started calling our daughter “the bruiser.”

My thirteen year old cajoled rides out of her siblings to get herself to the ski hill. I just texted her to ask how the skiing was. She replied:

    good
    pow!

My 17 year old is getting ready to mount his own damn skis this weekend after evaluating mount point on a beater pair. My 18 year old is currently recovering from breaking up with her boyfriend. Remains to be seen if she’ll turn to skiing to heal the pain, but the fact that he didn’t want to go skiing with her was a factor.

Skiing isn’t life, but I’m a little proud that this (and biking) is something that’s a part of their lives now, and I think that’s a good thing.
    focus.

Rad to see those skis still in use. My oldest son, who they were used by first, is competing in his first big mtn comp as a U12 at the Bird next weekend.

That's kind of cool, but I assume that not everyone skis so some kids must not go?

We have Friday night ski bus here for middle and high School. For my kids middle school, we just dump off 190 of them and tell them to come back in 4 hours and miraculously they all do..even the 6th graders, for the most part.

Fatherhood anonymous; an open discussion on being a dad.

So my wife is on a hut trip in BC this week while I hold down the fort. All according to plan, except I have Covid! I’m 7 days into it now, and am not better yet. I’ve been wearing a mask and thankfully our 2 year old is still healthy. She misses mom, but is doing well overall considering. I am wrecked as you can imagine! We have childcare during the work day (working from home) but it’s still a lot when Covid is sapping my energy. I need positive vibes from the other ski dads!

Photo of all the pow mom is shredding this week! I’m glad the trip is going well - makes it all feel worthwhile:

Positive vibes, Dromond! Hang in there!

I would not hesitate to call and friend and have them bring easy grocery food or whatever it’d take to feed your kid and yourself. Same goes for other things that makes the kid happy and helps you out.

I remember my wife and I have the flu at the same time with toddler twins and a 6 year old. We were worked with high fever for days, running out of easy food, trying to keep the toddler corralled in a space or set up with enough activities so one parent could rest/ sleep on the floor near the kids and one could rest/sleep in bed. Kids got introduced to a lot of screen time during that week.

My wife has yet to get back to the sports she enjoyed prior to our kid (2yrs). I've offered countless times to watch junior so she can go on a ski/surf/dive trip but she hasnt taken me up on it. Id be WAAAY more happy to solo parent for that reason instead of solo parenting during one of her work trips. The sacrifice is so much more worth it when you know that what you are doing is letting her have a blast.

Same for my wife and it's been 13yrs. The reality is that for many women, those things never become as important to them because the kids are the most important things to them. I've stopped trying to fight it and get her involved with doing those things with the kids as much as I can. She never had an "adventure buddy" other than me, so we do as much of those things when we take our trips.

Man, good luck Dromond! That is a rough week.

On the positive side, I would LOVE if my wife was an avid enough skier to be doing a hut trip. She's always been variably-enthused intermediate, then last spring she twisted her knee basically at the end of the bunny slope on our way to pick up our son from lessons and has declared that is enough skiing for her. She's going to try snowshoeing this weekend, we'll see how it goes.

In terms of kids skiing, I'm thrilled that my 7 year old is starting to really get into it. I had tried to start him before his 3rd birthday when we lived in the Northeast, then Covid hit, we moved to Southern NV, and I didn't get him back out until last Spring. That went well and I got him his own set of boots/skis for this year. We went to Brian Head, which is about 3.5 hours from us, and it seems like a great little kids mountain. We accidentally ended up spending all our time on the more "advanced" peak (as it has the only lift for night skiing and we started with that), and even there a good deal of the terrain was accessible for my son who I'd describe as an advanced beginner. I haven't skied it alone so I haven't explored everything, but I do get the criticism that there isn't much truly advanced terrain. Still, for skiing with a little kid, it seems pretty ideal. We're heading back this weekend and some friends are coming too, so my son is excited. Him getting really into skiing is key to my plan to get a lot of days over the next decade.

Thanks for the internet support, dads. We are holding up ok and are happy mom is shredding. I actually went on a hut trip last month - totaling three since our daughter was born - so this is not even close to getting me out of debt!

Why didn't you take paxlovid? Seems like most people are almost 100% day after starting.

I was told it’s not covered by insurance anymore and is very expensive. I could be mistaken.

It literally cost me 98 cents for two scrips when the wife and I had it over the holidays. Back to normal after the first pill. Get some lemons drops on hand as it leaves a real shifty taste in your mouth.

Speaking of illness I’m getting crushed by rotavirus. Thank god they vax the kids for it these days. My little dude has skated so far. I’ve never been so sick in my love except for maybe mono.

This guy is already making two stroke stoke sounds riding this thing around the groomers. He’s something fierce to deal with inside the RV when he’s in a foul mood, but these 2% moments of fun pay off! Also, he’s got the strap XC skis really dialed, still not into the alpine gear but no big deal there with the ski biking.
