Sometimes you just need a break.
Cool mommy-blog, bro. But snuggling with a 3 year old all day isn't remotely bad parenting.

What are you fucking Superman? Not doing too shabby if that’s the first time yer asking. Tell your friend to smoke a bowl and pat himself on the back for doing what you do. You can’t be a good dad all the damn time. It’s simply not fucking possible.

It's like the athletic position in skiing. You're always fighting to try to stay over your skis and be in proper position, but it's never 100% and we all fall down or get in the backseat sometimes. No need to beat yourself up about it. I yell at my kids sometimes, I've had to unplug from the family to recharge (as has my wife), and I'm not always the best model, but I try pretty hard to be a good parent and realistically I think that's what counts.

All that hard work leads to this: a well rounded child pursuing her dreams and her continued willingness to share her life w Dad, despite my lift line and other antics. Keep pushing through - it's worth it!

She had her boyfriend here the past week and the pressure was on to make sure he knew he was loved and welcomed so even when your kids are adults your efforts will still be needed.

I’m flexing my white male privilege today and blowing cash on lift tickets with my kid trying to build memories and keep the mountain stoke rolling through his brain hopefully for a lifetime after I’m gone.

Yesterday, we had a great ski outing with the four-year-old but the three-year-old had a complete meltdown on the hill, which ended with his mother carrying him down and then me carrying him to the car (complete with literal kicking and screaming, which is extra exciting when he's wearing ski boots).

Today we took both again for twilight skiing and got in four good runs before watching fireworks, with minimal angst from either kid (although the four-year-old apparently decided that turning is mostly optional, despite having been pretty good about that previously).

I'm psyched that they're both loving skiing and excited to keep going, even if they're not always excited on the hill.

Great job. No matter how hard, frustrating or downright aggravating it might be, just keep it fun and as short as necessary. We had plenty of days where our younger girl was a little shit and didn’t want to be there. She’d ruin family days at will but I’d just pull the plug and take her home. Now she’s five and skiing is honestly 90% of her daily requests. The other 10% is still TV…can’t win em all.

    Keep it up!

First day out this year with two of the three kids. Six and nine year old did awesome, they were pumped to take new season pass photos and try out new skis and coats from Christmas. Definitely a lot of work but man it’s rewarding to share the stoke and love of the experience in the mountains.

Meanwhile I've been at home for a week with a super angry toddler. Raging double ear infection, she puked the antibiotics for the first 24 hours so we had to go in 3 days in a row for injections, and it's right on the heels of a 1st ear infection so she's getting the stronger stuff. She's also refusing to take any oral meds, probably because of how violently she puked the abx, so there's no good way to control her fever other than suppositories (oh joy). It breaks my heart to see her so sad. She's either half-awake and crying from the pain and the fever, or passed out but constantly tossing and turning. She's hydrating OK but super weak from not eating anything. She's even refusing cheese, it's that bad.
She wants her mom who's stuck working a heinous series of holiday shifts, but all she gets is her dad who's feeling like a useless turd. I managed to escape for a few hours of skiing a couple days ago and felt guilty and sad the whole time...

You got this Boissal. This will pass. But it sure sucks in the moment.
And I would trade the honest anger of a sick toddler over a hormonal independent preteen challenging her mother any day . Just something to look forward to

Points well taken from both of you. #2 is gonna be a girl as well, I figure maybe they'll be more pissed at their mom and ignore their dad?

She's more or less back to normal now and demanded cheese tonight. Crisis averted. She lost 2.5 lbs, 10% of her body weight. Blows my mind how hard it must hit them at that age, and considering it's the worth thing they've experienced in their very short life it makes their mood more understandable...

Great day out, our little Junipers (22mo) first day in a resort skiing! Crushed it, fueled on stoke and gummy bears. Amazed at how natural skiing is for kids under 2 years.

Oldest (3.5) is really starting to put it together which is rad!!

My very limited sample size of primary problems:
Boy - Will you think and stop being an idiot about things?
Girl - Will you think of other people and be reasonable about things?

Now have two sessions on the board for the 8 year old - she is doing her best to get after it given her natural fear responses to speed/steep (we go rock climbing too and she's still working on being comfortable with any level of exposure/heights, which is fine). Boy is back on skis and just needs reps. I told him he gets poles when he figures out clean turns (both have lessons every week in Jan through a school program, so hopefully should be a fruitful month).

Bad side: both kids and my wife have agreed I should start snowboarding as I'm too good on skis (I spend a lot of time practicing my switch skiing).

Vibes - ear infections are high on our dread list when kids were younger.

We had numbing drops to put into the ear prescribed for one of our kids that seemed to provide enough relief to get them to take the medicine.

Possibly they don't prescribe those anymore, but they saved some misery for us a couple times.
