I've met and skied with a lot of you over the years and while some of you bicker like little bitches online, in person you usually turn out to be good people 9 times out of 10.

I read the first post of this thread yesterday and laughed. From reading it I deduced that BMills lived in Atlanta and that IAS was both checking on him and making a joke. Nothing in what was written struck me as racist or anything else.

Since I laughed does that make me racist, or not compassionate for the tragedy that happened............Let me muck it up more, one of my best friends is from Hong Kong born and raised, now what am I. This post was about a friend checking on a friend with possibly an ill timed joke but a joke none the less. IAS is good people and I believe him when he says he was going for the hookers and blow angle on this.

Some hook but most don't because in California law enforcement puts them out of business and runs regular stings. I probably have met 30+ socially. I've never been to one of the businesses as a customer fwiw. Here's a handful of them

So, uh--if not professionally, in what capacity do you know these ladies? You work with the businesses somehow (and I guess what you're saying is they work in 'massage' parlors but aren't prostitutes)?
To return to the original point you made, though, I think this may prove that the trafficked women are a distinct subset from the women you know. I think saying it's not true that Asian sex workers aren't trafficking victims, which gives a misleading impression about some of them that helps minimize what's been done to them (aside from when they're murder victims). But that's all somewhat tangential, IMO.

I know I said I'd exit this thread (4matic drew me back in with his...friends), but to be very clear, I do not doubt IAS's intent, nor do I disagree with you at all (having also met and skied with many mags) that overall it's a good group of people. But that doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of blind spots when it comes to this kind of thing.

Laughing doesn't make anyone racist, but I think if you can't understand the other side of it then it's problematic. Anyway, I think people who are aware of how Asians in the U.S. have been experiencing the past year or so might be looking at this a little differently (and respectfully, I don't think having an Asian friend changes anything, nor do I think anyone needs to prove anything about themselves in these discussions about racist/not racist).

I also may be seeing this a little differently as I live with and surrounded by many, many Asians. All of them have been incredibly concerned for the past six months or longer and constantly update each other on the latest incidents. I think if you are just casually following all these hate crimes (or not following them at all) you probably don't appreciate what it's doing to a community that was already very marginalized in many ways (ways that you may also have been unaware of, as I think is true especially for people who live in places without many Asians).

Hey! You have an asian friend so how could you possibly be racist.. Look, everyone has racist tendencies. I do, you do. The difference is how we fight against it to be a better person. It's not 1960 anymore. Sure, this forum is mostly friends so it's ok that we're not correct all the time but right now and this issue is not the time to say it's ok and have a good chuckle about it.

So, brother of a friend is a sex addict. It's pretty rough, it can destroy your life as easy as drugs or alcohol can.

The guy was married 20 years or so, and banged his wife 5-6 times a day, every day. They're religious kooks, so part of their beliefs is the wife's only purpose is to serve the needs of the husband and squeeze out babies.

Couple years ago she catches him doing Craigslist hook-ups. He goes through counselling, then does in-patient therapy. Says he loves his wife and will do anything to stay with her, but he never got better. They divorce and the church throws him out too (church is the entirety of their social network). Guy ended up with nothing.

You can debate the fact that the killer blamed it on a sex addiction and temptation he had with these places, that he admitted he planned to carry out more shootings at a porn house in Florida, whatever that is, where he was heading when they caught him, how that does or doesn’t prove his racist intent, how you can selectively ignore or accept the killer’s rationale, how you know sex workers or saw one on tv, and beat to fucking death any agenda you have. Just do it elsewhere like you said you would already.

Stop kicking IAS and anyone else here who isn’t interested in being an polyasshat.
