No poles?
Seems my hill has been overrun by mostly teenage boys, skiing backseat, with no poles. Not really a new trend. Is it snow boarder envy? I did know this one dude that did it just to be able to properly carry his morning coffee. It has definitely been a few year progression. What are the cool nick names for this semi-new genre of skiing?

I saw a trio today at the lift. Mystifying. One wonders if there are other pop culture fads that bind them.

the kids doing this are usually not snaking your pow lines but yell at them with the same zeal usually reserved for yelling at kids to get off your lawn

No poles?
I was at the FIS World Championship’s of Free Skiing last week. About 5% didn’t have poles. But most of the good ones do and they can carve a turn.
I don’t care if they are WC athletes. If they sit on their tails and straight line to the venue, they’re gapers.

See lots of this at my park centric area. Aside from the no poles kids, there’s one ~6’ teen who has poles shorter than my 7 y/o’s which is amusing. Think w his arms hanging straight down his poles just touch the ground, definitely more ridiculous than no poles

Yeah, there's a rationale behind it (at least there was 15+ years ago when this started becoming a thing among park rats--then it kind of went away, before returning in force recently), but it really doesn't make sense. It's fashion. Tall tees for 2021. It will disappear because it hinders a lot more than it helps, to the degree that it helps at all. Me, I prefer to ski, and I assume I'd feel the same even if I were 17 years old today...but the more they sit around in the park, the more they sit around in the park, so don't complain.

I bet most of these mother fuckers are wearing the Leki quick release pole straps and leaving their poles at home.
