    Pivot question

I just had someone else mount my fucking skis (with pivots) and the shop let me know that the din reading on the toe pieces is changing depending on whether it has boots engaged. So like a 10 without the boot in and a 12 when it’s in. Has anyone seen this in pivots?

was there a lot of haze in haze in the shop?
can't help you but go ask Alice, I think she'll know.
Growing up I was a very technical skier at a tiny ski hill, now when I go back, I just take the whole thing in ... with flexion, then extension. And yeah I am over it.

That shouldn’t happen. the screw, washers and spring assembly may be assembled incorrectly. Or if they’re really old something could be catching and needs a regrease.

Another thought... are you jamming WTR soles into a P18? That might do it. Don’t do that.

There is a metal screw that goes through the pedestal that the spring goes over and the toe adjustment screws onto which could have grease on it or be stripped. Either could be causing your issue. The grease you see here on the threads should not be there.

Thanks guys. They did the bench test with my Lange rx boots, so I think we’re good there. They are unused and pretty new. I’ll mention the grease theory to the shop.

I’ve never had that happen with pivots so no help there. Is forward pressure right? With boot in angle tab behind heel is lined up to the end

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Haha, looking forward to your explanation of how grease could cause this issue (or ANY issue whatsoever).

Aside from a thick haze in the shop, upward pressure on the toe could cause this issue (as Judo mentioned). Your RX should be no problem though...
Craaazy way too high forward pressure could theoretically cause this too but you’d really have to force the boot in and yank up on the dildo to affect the DIN.

The fuck you think this is, grease class? I have no idea. I had the same problem in an 18 toepiece and the shop tec said to try this. I did and the problem went away. Maybe something else was causing it and it was a coincidence. Don't know don't care.

I think I’m going to let my shop send the toes back to Look to evaluate them. I don’t want to be thinking about a potential blow up when I’m skiing them.

Did you rule out the WTR incompatibility?

The new GW pedestals are alpine and GW compatible. Just wanted to rule out a WTR or AT sole.

So glad I’m not the only one who has been absolutely baffled by this claim.

They were mounting them using my Lange rx’s, so it shouldn’t be a WTR issue.

FWIW, Just noticed this same issue on my new P15s first time i popped my boots in to get them adjusted. Probably only noticed due to this thread, but DIN went from 8-10 as the dildo activated. Forward pressure was jacked up way too high pre-adjustment... boot's gw contact point sat about 1/4" off the afd, and the binding toepiece was rocked forward substantially. No bueno. Of course, the binding forward pressure indicator was dead nuts.

Set up forward pressure appropriately per the other thread, and voila, toe DIN holds when a boot is locked and loaded.

Not a shop tech, but would wager a guess that's what was going on in the OPs case too.

    Pivot-related threadjack:

Does anyone know if you can use a Pivot jig for old Rossi 180 toes? Eyeballing it the hole pattern looks exactly the same.

The 4 hole jig is the same, but there is also a 3 hole variant.

Yes, the old 4-hole Rossi toe.
