Yeah, I know what it is (Unfortunately. When we were growing up we just called that fucking around. We didn't have to name it and make it a drill.) Deweighting and initiating the turn with your tips in bumps is useful for control and bleeding speed and you can properly calculate the circumference of a circle by using the War of 1812 combined with the symbolism from King Lear and ... fuck. Sorry. Nodded off halfway through and woke up in my most boring classes from high school. I apologize.

But was it a point of contention in a previous thread? And what was the argument? I'm excited there might be another must read thread.

Cause this one is fucking amazing.

Edited to add that I'm giving the guy in the video 9/10 for style points. I like how he matched his helmet to his gloves, but the boots don't go at all. And they're not red.

Wow I checked this yesterday and I come back to this plethora of verbal amusement. My pole is quivering!

i once described a powder turn on skinny skis to my kid as a kind of "dolphin turn" hoping to capture the up/down nature in a verbal image

i didn't realize the deep provenance of this highly technical skiing term and will be more careful with my words in the future

"dolphin turn" was coined by Patrick Duffy in that Man from Atlantis episode where he skis a death chute. It's true look it up.

There's some long history of this, going back to EpicSki days, and here as well. I don't remember all the particulars but since this thread is something of a carryover of the OP, it somehow fed into this thread. It was referenced in the linked thread below, too.

We had blurred psy ops and everything happened in one forum. (or I rarely ventured out of the ski board ¿)

But I think the fabled golden age was 2003-2008ish?

ok, well now let's see some dolphin turns, or skiing down a gnar 135 degree chute.

Baby steps man. I have to learn to properly pole all over again, like a toddler learning to walk.

Then I do a double pole plant dolphin caught in a tuna net tumble down the 135%degree choot.

I hadn't read this thread before.

The TL;DR version is something like: Bushwhacker will pay you $1000 to lurk in his eastern poop chute of death if you dolphin turn with your poles strapped on. Or strapped off. I'm not sure. And do lurks have straps?

I think a lurk needs a leash at some resorts.

No. He won’t pay you. He will offer and then rescind all offers. Like a big jerk.

If I ski this overhanging death chute I assume I’ll suffer multiple abrasions. Will I be entitled to any compensation? $1000?

watch these guys, the green guys get back due to his sloppy fucking arms and blows up, the POV skier cant ski it and rotates his shoulders.
Why does this short gap in the trees keep getting used for a pole measuring contest? Is it supposed to be the east coast version of Corbets? I'm sure there's a better ski-off run out there.
