Dude, don’t pull that thing out by the roots! Scissor off leaves as you need them, as long as you keep lettuce well watered you can shear that shit like a sheep. Sparrows keep feasting on my lettuce, I’m tempted to bust out the pellet gun on their asses but will probably use the tried and true pie pan/piece of string/stick method.

Things are going ok in the McMann family garden. My wife’s nook is coming along nicely.

The wife has a bunch of perenials in her new nook, I’m digging it. She’s working on a flagstone path and small patio for the area. I ran drip to most of it this evening.

Planted a lot of color bowls, they all seem to be doing well.

Potatoes are all up and doing well, liking using them to fill the box and improve production.

That is a very nice looking backyard. I wish I was that diligent in keeping my backyard looking good but living in Florida shit can get out of hand quickly. There's is this 10' section along my back fence I've been letting grow wild for the past five years but after Hurricane Sally I decided to start cutting it back and clean it up. So far I've found two Loquat trees looking healthy hidden in the bush.

All of a sudden... Things were slow to start but now it's going off. I planted really early because March and April were so warm, I figured I'd get an extra month but it turned out to be an exercise in patience. Over the last week or so the soil warmed up and boom, things are poppin'. Beans and melons came up over the weekend and the slow starting herbs are all up. It looks like I have over a 90% success rate of seeds sprouting which is nice since everything was started in place from seed this year.

Any pepper experts? Temps are dipping down to 40 F overnight, is that ok for a night or should I bring them inside?

It's been unseasonably warm here the last month so I rolled the dice and got everything out pretty early.

Potted plants covered here. Wasn't it just 90 a couple a days ago. I thought we were done with this. Never get crazy until Memorial Day!

And even later if you live up in Richford. Or South Lincoln. And a whole bunch of other pockets.

LOL, it's an annual discussion between me and my wife. Especially the last 5 yrs with the heat spells in April and early May. She gets excited and wants to plant everything. I say nope, not frost free until the May long weekend. And sure enough, a couple killer frosts come out just before that long weekend. The old folk have learned the hard way, and even with the global warmings, frost free still follows the old timings.
This year she completely heeded my advice, but it made for planting into the dark hours this week cause it all had to go in ASAP - LOL. The hardest part of growing things is having patience. A lot also depends on soil temps, so even though the risk of frost is done, a cold wet spell in late May or June will severely retard some plants growth. Not to mention if there is a fungus waiting for cold and wet to eat the roots out from under you.

Many beautiful garden pics here though! Fantastic work everyone! I gotta get out and take some pics to share.

The tennant does all the gardening, i think she has it all done I leave it all to her kinda makes you feel like Gentry

but then go out to GF's highly labor intensive lot/ garden/ yoga studio/ BnB garden and there is endless yard maintenance/ changes

she always sez you should do this and that to which i reply if i did all those things to my place i would be doing them instead of out here working for you ... so which is it you want ?

Peppers will slow down for a week or so after a cold night but it won't kill them. Wouldn't have hurt to cover them but if temps go right back up they'll be OK, possibly a bit stunted though.
