If you look at the debris pile seems like it came from the top left corner of the image into a terrain trap with that cliff

From the upper left, you can see the "nose" of the debris.
Report was well done and very respectful, It seems very likely the ranger who wrote this knew Ian.
A good "obituary" from Ski and Ride

"If the road You followed brought you to this,of what use was the road"?
"I have no idea what I am talking about but would be happy to share my biased opinions as fact on the matter. "

^ Agreed. Had never read an Avvy incident report from the NE area before, and yeah it seems like their forecasting office knew the guy on some kind of level. He probably submitted a lot of obs over the years.
This line in particular was very pointed:
“If there are lessons to be learned from this accident, they aren’t new. Skiing technical lines, in a thin snowpack above a notorious terrain trap, with no partners, even on a Low danger day, raises the stakes tremendously.”

Thanks for posting. That report really hits home, as I tend to ski alone as often as not.
Sounds like Ian was just a super stoked and competent guy whose luck ran out that day. Another sad story in a very sad year.

It sounds like if anyone deserved to be mentioned in 5 or 6 different threads on TGR, it was Ian.
