Jesus fuck. Takes a while to get to the goods, focusing more on this dudes progression as an ice climber for far too long, but man, what a place for a bear attack. I've seen footage of bears in the true alpine, who hasn't, but always figured an attack there would be highly unlikely.

Thanks for posting that - I liked the progression of difficulty culminating in the final challenge!

Nutty......I've spent a fair bit of time in the CA Rockies in winter and fall climbing ice/alpine routes, and a lot of time stumbling out of those routes in the dark, stinking like canned sardines. Luck.

One of us always has a can of bear spray, all year round. Never can tell when you'll run into something unexpected. Wolf, moose, bears and cats all a concern around here. 2 weeks ago I was out alone about 4 miles from the car meadow skipping, and came across some big cat tracks that were fresh that day. Was very glad had it with me

I hike with a whippet, not to self-arrest, but to defend against a bear like DiCaprio revenant style.

In Alaska they would tell you to file the teeth off it, so that it doesn’t hurt as much when the bear shoves it up your ass.

Nice bump. Just saw an article saying those spicy good bois and gurls are starting to wake up around here with the warm weather and longer days.

In 1999 we carried a gun on Baffin Island for dealing with Polar Bears. Skiing with a gun was a first. This photo was in the Monashee Mountains of BC. Click image for larger version.

I was too blown away by the boots and ski set up in general to even notice the massive prints at first

Don't even need bear spray or a gun if you have SX92's. You're obviously man (or woman) enough to tackle them unarmed.

This was March 7 about 800 vt. feet above and within sight of I-80 near Cisco Grove exit in California, and next to a creek that had just opened. . Yikes! So even if rolling solo, you may not be alone.

Isn't that just black bear country? They just need hugs.

No, I didn't do a TR about Baffin Island. I'm getting slides scaned currently. Maybe I will do a TR.

I once found a can of bear spray under the Ptarmigan lift at Loveland. I turned it in at lost and found.

We got a late season dump, after a long warm spell one year.
Riding up 1A, I was amazed how fast a bear could run up Norway, in a foot of heavy snow.
