Hey Harry be careful going into your favorite fishing hole. It’s probably good to go now they killed the bear, well unless another one moves in on the moose carcass.

    FUCK. I knew the guy.

Not real well, first name basis only. Met him at this exact same fishing hole quite a few years ago. Bakers Hole is my favorite spot to fish, he was there all the time. We are both solitary people, we would see each other fishing, nod or wave, and go our separate ways. Could have easily been me.

    RIP brother.

Edited: took out some personal info out of respect for his family.

Damn Harry, this hits close to home. Good reminder to remember bear spray - something I forgot all to often.

Fun trip over to Colorado, fishing wasn’t the best and we could’ve lost one of us, but good times were had.

My 9 year old has shown interest in fishing rivers with me and I’m wondering if I should start her out on a small spinning rod while I fly fish? My typical fishing is in CO, on Clear Creek, South Platte near Deckers, Blue River, Eagle River and CO River.

^ Don’t think starting out on spinning gear is a necessity. Teach her how to casting basics in the yard first, make it into a game. First time on water go for panfish at a local pond or something (little casting required). Go from there

My grampa taught me fly fishing at age 6 or so. Basically it was Tenkara. I caught shitloads of Perch with my little cane pole and a dry fly.

I was in the exact same position six years ago. Started my 9 y/o girl with a Ross Journey 7' 4wt rod/reel combo, Cabela's waders, and Simms boots. Not high end but definitely not junk. We fished Clear Creek at the gravel mine below Idaho Springs and she landed a couple of decent rainbows on real fly gear. I still remember the smiles. She's since moved on to bigger/better gear and fishes with me a few times every summer.

Still have all that gear and cleaned it up last summer for a friend's kid to use. If you're interested, I'd be happy to pass it along to help get another CO girl on the water. I'm in Denver. PM me if you're interested.

If the canister is being funky because of the cold don’t heat it on another stove.
