Shapes are same but stiffness/materials may vary. Here is a photo of the cuff of a kr2 130 showing several stiffness options like the tongues.

Sweet mod, this is helping me pass some quarantine time. Thanks for the inspiration. Click image for larger version.

Yeah what’s the use case for these?
    - short sidecountry tours?
    - want a gripwalk sole for the apres dance scene?
    - want to ski a pin binding mounted ski inbounds with an alpine boot?

Ski hill then shorter sidecountry off the hill with out having to change boots. Not skiing a walkmode boot inbounds all the time. Carbon cuff on the Air130. Too much time and all the right tools.

For me it's basically...krypton flex and feel, with gripwalk. Which was not otherwise attainable.

It's also easily reversible. If you don't overtorque the fasteners, you can have one clog (in my case one that has significant $ invested into shell work) and could swap out cuffs for alpine/tour use. That's not something I would do but I could see it making sense for some people.

Also, tinkering is fun. So there's that.

First off - hell yeah on this mod. That is awesome. Very inventive - gotta love the modularity of the Dalbello/three-piece boots.

Since I have a touring boot I absolutely love, but am CAST-curious and ski Kryptons inbounds, I am very stoked that the new Krypton has tech fittings in the toe. The prospect of alpine boots with tech toes strikes me as a great development for sidecountry/single-boot options. I MUCH prefer an alpine boot inbounds, and if it's just for a short skin, I can get buy with no walk mode.

If I'm walking, I got elf slippers for that...

Is there a fit difference between the lupo and krypton clog?

I just realized the reason they are probably adding the tech fittings to the krypton next year is so they can use the lupo clog for the GW soles. The current krypton clog doesn’t have GW soles and they are probably saving money by not designing ones that do fit.

    Depends on which Lupo.

Stoked on the ski performance on the Luptons. Touring with out a walkmode isn't great, but it's not that bad, especially for the Kicking Horse slack, where long flat walks are nil.

I would love to try this out, but need some clarity on compatibility.

So it looks like this combo only works on the newer gen of Krypton. If I am looking for a used pair, what are some specific features that will help me determine those Kryptons over older ones?

As long as the Krypton 130/KR2 Pro/Whatever 130 flex Kryptons have replaceable soles, they're the newer/current KR2 shell. The first couple years of KR2 shells were solid lug soles like the version before it, but if you have any doubts, replaceable soles = KR2.
