Suggestions for a at 120+ underfoot touring ski

I would love to here what people like in this realm.


Currently have the Voile Chargers and the Moment Comi's. I love the long turn radius of the Comi's and consequently end up reaching for them well before the chargers are outgunned because it's just more fun. I'd love to find a comparably fun ski that doesn't have the same 10+ pound weight penalty.

So far the 4FRNT Renegades seem like a good option but would want to here what else people like.

I have Scrapper 124s in 190 cm w/ kingpins and it’s definitely my favorite sidecountry or deeep day setup (I’ve owned a variety of moments, praxis, DPS etc in the 120+ category). I think they’re 8.6-9 lbs. got the actual weight somewhere.

Both great skis that I enjoy touring on, but sounds like OP prefers a long turning radius. 4FRNT Rens might be a good option.

Love my Bent Chetler 120s. Stupid light for their size. I’m in Shifts because they’re a 50/50 ski for me, but if I wanted them as a dedicated tourer a set of ATKs or Kingpins would be in order.

I have Rossignol super 7 RD 190cm, 30m radius, 120mm and light enough for touring. Good ski!

I love Lotus 120s and tour a lot with them. Excel in super deep stuff but still are good to manage most conditions on your way to the powder. Long radius helps with traversing harder slopes (uphill). Very reliable ski!
From what is available now I think the Völkl BMTS are great!

+1 for Lotus 120’s. Have spoons. Usually ski something smaller early season but by the time I get on them I forget how fun they are.

I have 182 drifter in this slot. Had 192 but pulled bindings and put on the 193 V8 at 119 underfoot. You can have the 192 drifter for shipping if you want
Two mounts but bases and edges are clean
I’m in Utah. I like voile.

Appreciate the offer whyturn. I borrowed a friend's drifters a few years back a had a great time on them but the 182's are the size I'd need. Hopefully someone else can put them to use.

yyyup I'm touring on bmt 122's - they definitely are another level of float compared to gpo's and the like in the bc. they make days where avalanche terrain is not in the plan fun by how well they float

that said i'm still looking at building an UL protest for touring

I'm giving serious consideration to a UL veneer FRS, but that group therapy session will have to be carried out on the Praxis thread.

It makes me sound like a dentist but the DPS Lotus124 in Tour1 intrigues me. Way outside my ski budget but would be interesting as a bc only ski.

I just heard about the La Sportiva Vapor Float. 117 underfoot, so doesn't quite qualify, but holy shit that thing is light. 1400g compared to 2000+ on most of these "inbounds skis that are light enough for touring."

Its a very specialized ski, excellent in blower pow and terrible in everything else. It would only make sense to own it if you live in UT, WY or maybe parts of CO that regularly get big low-density snowfall (or at least used to...) you would want something heavier for maritime snow

I think you’d like the bmt’s, Thom. Traditional mount, can be driven but also quite loose. A style that gets along with gpo’s transfers quite directly.

Next level of float compared to 187 ul gpo’s. I think the 186 bmt is probably 2cm longer

I wouldn’t go sub 120 for a dedicated pow meadow skipper. Protest, bmt, nocta, the blue lotus or even the 138. These will float well enough to make 4 inches of maritime feel like a pow day in untracked bc skiing

I've heard nothing but good about that ski in the Tour layup, Marshal is a yuge fan of it

Wife and I both took BMT 122's to Japan a couple of years ago and they were perfect for that application. Floaty and loose cruising the birch forests and competent enough coming back down the groomers at the end of the day. Not chop killers but reliable and won't shit the bed every time you hit a little pile while crossing tracks. Even honest on rained on refrozen groomers when needed. Wife was amazed how much snow you can stack on top of a 120mm+ ski when skinning!

I had a 200 cm lotus 120 w/ bamboo sidewalls as my BC deep pow ski for years, but as i implied above, it’s kinda mediocre compared to more modern designs. The versatility across crust or weird snow on the lower elevation part of the tour sucked compared to a praxis Ullr or the Scrapper 124. In the right (ie perfect blower) they were fun and fast, but not as stable at high speeds as the Scrapper which has some damping elements in the construction that actually work and a shape and profile that feel more dialed.

My voile charger 115 waist skis have a super friendly flex that is outstanding for tree skiing, but ain’t a charger or sidecountry slayer unless you’re a light person.. I recall that the construction and flex is similar to the 120 Drifter posted above, assume they ski similarly?

If i were buying something now I think it’d be the bmt 122.
