Why does TGR love high din bindings?

I barely register on the DIN range but my daily drivers are P18s with 600+ days on them.

So that said, I personally think that U-spring bindings (race heels) actually work better that standard prong bindings (vertical/radical heels) because the spring is much bigger and can just work in its natural way without wacky changes to preload/etc to keep you in. It's a more known and plannable entity that has much more consistent releases, should you need them.

Would be interested to hear more thoughts on this, I've never heard this perspective

As an also large guy, with larger than average feet (ladies...), I've found that DIN setting is super-sensitive to BSL so I need to go with lower-spec bindings if I want a shop to mount/test.

Think about all of those nice big skis mounted with P18's for 295-305 BSL in Gear Swap. When I'm up at 240lbs* w/339 BSL, I am mathematically eliminated from using P18s according to the DIN standard -> minimum setting is too high.

On the other hand, my 16-yo daughter with much smaller feet, and half my weight, passed me on the DIN scale last year since I turned 50 (losing 1 point) when same level of skiing skill is entered.

I got the small AZN feet (centuries of foot binding eh ) so small BSL needs a higher DIN

I have never tested bindings or taken them to the shop, instead I just start low and turn them up til they stop falling off which is about 7, one more din for 8 on the vibram heels of AT boots

Have a pair of 14 din pivots that are maybe 7 years old that are creaky as fuck. Kind of sketch me out and will probably replace in the near future.

Those new metal 15s fill a nice void for those of us that are skiing at the lower end of an 18 din binding but want the durability.

That may be so, but you still owe us some titties to make up for that shit.

Wanted to add that if I were a more proficient skier, with better technical skills, I could easily run a lower din setting and wouldn’t need a metal binding with high release values and tons of elastic travel. Big stable skis and high DIN mask a lot of my insufficiencies as a skier. Not saying everyone on katanas w/916s is a hack, but it certainly helps me out.

Personally I like the extra weight and feel that it helps keep my skis from deflecting. I currrently have
3 - Pivot 15/18’s
2 - Pivot 14’s
1 - STH216
2 - Warden 13’s

They are all fine but if I can a get a deal I go metal. Toe height keeps creeping on my oldest Wardens..

Another reason - sometimes the higher din model has a better design or more features.

For example
- older higher din Sollys have the worm screw heal
- higher din FKS’s have the post mounted race toe
- higher din attacks have more boot compatibility
