    MLB 2021 Official Thread

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the 2020 World Series Champions!
Want an asterisk? its right here (_*_)

We just resigned Blake Treinen to a 2-year deal. Adding to the LA bullpen for 2021 along with former All-Star closer Corey Knebel, among others. Just to remind, the Dodger bullpen was one of the best in baseball in 2020, topping the National League with a 2.74 ERA. Dodgers are the favorites, come at me.

With the hot stove heating up, Padres signing hudge pitching talent and Lindor going to the Mets(!?!?) thought it was time to break open discussion on 2021.

Pitchers and catchers report in 39 days.

Going to be a interesting year. Frequent contributor Bmills puts it best:

Baseball may look very different in the next two years with the collective bargaining agreement expiring, covid ruining club's balance sheets, and distrust between players and owners at an all time high.

I just hope I can go to a game this year.

Thanks Woodsy, let's hope this season is back to something close to normal.

Thanks Frankie, I enjoyed the hell out of watching you play for my team. Generational, homegrown talent, first rate teammate, leader and member of the community. 4x All-Star, 2x Gold Gloves, 2x Silver Slugger, an AL Championship and a trip to the World Series and a 22 game win streak to follow that up. Amazing. Best of luck in Queens, I'll clap for you when you visit the Jake (or on a regular basis at Truist Park).

I still call it The Jake.

they're terrible. I don't even care they traded mookie betts, the guy wasn't coming back for less than 10/400 and Red Sox ownership has ALWAYS spent the money. That Chris sale deal is going to fuck us. And fuck us good.

Nice to see LAD come through just like the Braves in the 90s. 1 title* in 4? trips to the WS.

They’ve been the favorite the last five years or so and can win only one. Reincarnation of the Braves?

Dave Roberts telling people Lasorda told him he was sticking around until they won the series.
Glad he got to see it.
Thanks for the joy you brought me over the many years Tommy. Say hello to the big Dodger in the sky for us.

even with all the fkd up shit going on in the world, my phone has been flooded with condolences from friends. Dodger fans of course ( hi Arty!) but Mets, Phillies, Yankee, Red Sox, Atros, Braves & even, yes Giants fans.

    Baseball is cool

Yup. Lifelong Giants fan here. Hated Tommy for being part of the Dodgers, but he was a class act and one of the great.

I'm sure he's arguing with St. Peter at the pearly gates and kicking some clouds onto his sandals.

I was exposed to baseball as a youngster, but it really came into my consciousness during those Yanks-Dodger WS’s in the 70’s, so Tommy and Billy were really the first managers I came to know. TL is the most Dodger person of my lifetime.

I must admit that with the Sox looking so poor for the next couple of years I’ve become a little Philly-curious.

    i loved TL too.

long before the astros owner sold out to go to the AL to save a few bucks and the astros became the 'cheating astros' the astros and dodgers had a lot of great games i enjoyed in my youth.

Trigger pulled on Sunday day game @ citi to see the World Champion Los Angels Dodgers of Los Angeles in August.

In other news, Pete Rose bad, gambling good?

The first sportsbook is coming to an MLB stadium and fans will be able to place bets from their seats

Baseball’s about-face on gambling will be even more pronounced in 2021, as the Washington Nationals announced plans Monday to open the first sportsbook at an MLB stadium, and for an app that will allow fans at Nats games to place bets from their seats.

The team announced it has a deal with BetMGM to become its official gaming partner, starting down a path that could see fans placing bets by opening day and using the sportsbook by summer.

    According to the Washington Post:

The BetMGM sportsbook at Nationals Park is tentatively scheduled to open this summer, with betting windows, electronic betting kiosks, food and drink. Plans have yet to be finalized, but the sportsbook will be open year-round and occupy the former “Center Field Social” space at the corner of N St. and Half St. SE, located to the right of and just outside the center field gate. It will not be accessible from inside the ballpark. The BetMGM app, which, under D.C. law may only be used to place bets inside and within the immediate vicinity of the stadium, could launch by Opening Day.

    Gambling is fine.

Just as long as you don’t bring the integrity of the game into question by being a player or manager gambling on/against your own team. Not shedding tears for Petey.

Yankees will be re-signing LeMahieu to a six-year, $90 million deal. longer and lower than I expected.
Cody Bellinger avoids arbitration, agrees to one-year, $16.1-million deal with Dodgers higher and shorter than I was expecting, especially with his off year last year.

i think DJ's deal was kinda low. he has been maybe the most consistent player in baseball for the last few couples of seasons. agent must suck.

The firing was deserved, but I can't help feeling like this was an ESPN hit piece. They've had this info for a few years, and it only gets published shortly after Porter becomes a GM? Seems like they were sitting on it until he became someone worth reporting on. Which is not to excuse his behavior AT ALL.

Also buried in the story is that when she finally spoke up to Porter, he apologized and the texts stopped. Which doesn't absolve him at all of what he did, but it doesn't play well with the overall narrative. The whole thing just strikes me as ESPN finding out some juicy bit of info that could ruin someone's career, and sitting on it until that guy had a career worth ruining.
