Instead, MLB is mimicking the worst of corporate America: gutting small towns to help billionaires get even richer. It’s a tough sell for MLB to build a stadium for one game while taking away two teams that local communities supported for decades.

Iowa still has three affiliated minor league teams — which means hundreds of hopeful young athletes get exploited by MLB in our state every year. Minor-league life might seem pretty romantic, but the reality is bleak: poor housing, lack of quality food, low salaries, and required training with no pay. People are often surprised to hear that the average minor-leaguer makes under $7,500 per year.
