Nobody is getting into the Hall this year, unless voters change drastically from prior behavior.

Schilling may lose out for being a dick. I'm not so torn about that. Because he's a dick.

So the writers looked at all these guys and said, nope, none of these guys are HoF worthy. 4 even sent back blank ballots.

I love the traditions of the game but this process is idiotic.

Is it the Hall Of Fame where the best postseason pitcher, the Cy Young record holder and one of the two greatest SS to play the game, aren’t good enough?

Or is it the Hall of Good Guys whose past bad acts are far enough removed or inconsequential to the writers?

There are 3 hall worthy. Maybe a fourth. I think the hall of very good election is in September.

Schilling is such a whiney bitch. Asks not to be considered next year, his last. Writers probably chuckle. Bye bye, Curt.

I was completely confused by number 3 and had to look it up. How in the fuk is Nolan Ryan not in the HoF. Fuck those guys. That’s ridiculous. The other two are ridiculous two btw. At least there is a bs excuse behind leaving out 1 and 2, but whats the deal w Ryan? Did he fuck someone’s mom? Or maybe Robin Ventura had him blackballed?

This is the most incorrect thing ever written on this board. Where the fuck is Ice. The best right handed hitter in the league for 10 years. The best right handed hitter maybe since DiMaggio.

    I’m actually pissed off now.

Well, it does. Somewhere. It's just that those guys don't have a plaque, and got a speech on the lawn. Not a member of a very exclusive club. Sorry.
First time I went to the HOF, Ricky Henderson was everywhere when they talked about numbers, but, he still hadn't retired yet.

And always had Papi in the lineup to protect him, and vice versa.

His defense was horrendous and it was a really high-offense era. And it's not like he brought anything in terms of baserunning skill.

If you want to compare him to Frank Thomas or Edgar Martinez, that's how he would get in. But I'm not sure you can make the case that he was better. And the roids and general clown/asshole status count for something.

Anyhow, I'm fond of the guy because of what he meant to the '03-'04 Sox, but he's borderline for the Hall if we are going to be honest about it.

I'm also fine with Schilling sitting out. It's one thing to be a dick. It's another to define your entire life and career around being a dick, and he's committed himself to the latter.

I'd put Clemens and Bonds in, though.

Edgar Martinez hit 30hr ONCE. In a high offense era! punching Judy hitter. And a DH.
Manny “had”Ortiz for 2004 to half of 2007. He didn’t get that 8 year $160m contract (which he earned every penny) in 2002 because of Ortiz....he was a fucking STUD before even coming to the Red Sox. What does “have” mean anyway...manny was still hitting .300/40/120 annually anyway no matter who was there. Triple crown level shit.

I’m in the “best players” camp. Manny was the best hitter in the league (or at worst top 3) for many years. Him coming to the plate stops people from taking a shit.

And if you put Clemens and bonds in, where’s the threshold for morals? A rod? Piazza? Ty Cobb? Are you not putting schilling in because he rants on Twitter? That’s some soft shit.

Reggie is similar in awful defense, strikeouts, and base running.

Manny didn’t strike out a lot. And I thought he was very aloof but actually didn’t think his defense was terrible. Decent arm, pretty accurate quick release, played the monster ok. You see the highlights and it’s like- oh this moron is awful! Happened a few times for sure but he threw more people out at second base than anyone else playing the wall since yaz

The reasoning for not putting this guy in or that guy in because he was a dick is a weak argument considering Ty Cobb has been in there forever.

Meanwhile, MLB, via the Cubs, are going forward with putting the first sportsbook in one of its stadiums while those guys in the hall keep acting like Pete isn't the hit king.

(Yes, I know Pete is his own worst enemy and probably could have negotiated his way back had he just not been Pete, but that's not really the point, is it?)

Thx. I didn’t notice you wrote 3rd and then when I looked up Ryan on Wikipedia it didn’t list HoF under accomplishments. So I was beyond wtf. Clemens though - i understand leaving him out. Fuck that asshole. Lol

This gets to my whole point
HOF is bullshit at this point

No reason to argue about Manny and whether his defensive liability was over come by his amazingly consistent great hitting if you are not going to allow a better hitter with the most HRs of all time in for suspected PED use when Manny got popped for it 2x. ( although in fairness, what did Manny miss 180 games? Imagine his lifetime stats if you tack those games on.)

I said he was borderline, not a lock, might deserve it, might not, but we cant even have that argument because, see above point.
