    MLB 2021 Official Thread

WTF is happening in the Sox/rays game? Just turned it on to watch a four run error from dougie

Edit: guess they called it a hit even though it hit him in the glove

Edit 2: back to an error.

Sure was nice seeing the World Champions display at Cooperstown today.

Did they have biggest asterisk in MLB history prominently displayed?

Tampa Bay's Brandon Lowe and Josh Lowe should put their heads together and decide how their name is pronounced.

BoSox rookie Bobby Dalbec is getting better every day, guy is killing it lately.

Just remember folks, Derek Jeter allowed more defensive runs than any other player since the advent of the stat.

Not a big Jeter fan but he had some of the best offensive numbers ever for a shortstop. You put up with not the best defense if they can rake

A lot can happen in two decades, but most of those things aren't starting at shortstop every day for the Yankees.

    He was safe standing up
    Where is the tag?
He missed and tagged the left leg after the right leg went down.
    But, Yankeez

(btw I almost got beat up making this argument in the Oak Room in Oct 01)

Jeter was a great player, but tired of everyone saying he was the ultimate team player. If that were the case he would have given up the SS position to Arod, who was a superior defender. for the good of the team.

And Arod never really bitched at all that I heard. Who's the superior team player? Shit, superior player period. He's actually not terrible on TV either/

Just the Sunday Night Baseball stuff, I don't know what else he's doing, I'm sure it's horrible enough. I don't like the guy but he does okay as a color guy. Definitely knows his shit at least.

You can slow it down and watch his uniform ruffle, it was the right leg. Giambi's left leg never comes into play because he was out. But, I'll maintain that if he had slid Posada never would have had him, it was a combination of a great play and bad/slow baserunning that allowed it to happen.

that *might* have been true when Arod arrived but his mobility got worse pretty quickly on the yanks so it's kind of moot. the last year he put up a positive number for fielding runs above average was his first with the yanks (except for one outlier). if you take a deeper look at the defensive numbers Arod had at SS it's clear he was also overrated defensively as well and they're closer than you might think. And although Jeter had a good arm, I think Arod's was better so it probably made sense all things considered to put him at 3rd.

I'm not a Saint Jeter kind of guy but some people here and elsewhere blow it out of proportion with the revisionist history. What I liked about him was that he showed up to play every day, not just in contract years, not just after the all star break, whatever. And he never seemed to hide when he did something wrong, not that he talked a lot anyway.

Those are skills most pros don't seem to have. Look at the way these current junkees shrivel from the camera, no consistency, and no rudder at all. Jeter managed to do that for a lot of years.

Maybe he's the kind of guy you just hate if he doesn't play for your team, like Pedroia, idk. But in context since his retirement I appreciate his career more than I did then.

I dunno, I don't get the sense Jeter was hated by anybody, it's just the "Saint Jeter" stuff as you call it got to be a little much. Guy was a very good to great player but enough worship was enough.

Jeter had to get blown all out of proportion in the first place before we could hate on him. And that’s because of the team he played for and when he did. Without late 90s espn/nyc media circle jerk scene jeter would never have become st jeter.

Probably the worst play ever by a catcher just now in the Mets/Yanks game. Gary Sanchez the matador.

OLE! Win 13 in a row just to lose 13 of 15? Epic collapse, what chokers. At least Danno gets a win.

Yankee tears have been flowing on Twitter, enjoy:

Maybe Lindor won't be a bust after all? Tough to say if being able to hit off AAA pitching means much though.
