If you've ever kayaked the Lochsa....

If you've ever run the Lochsa you've looked up at Old Man Creek, just below Pipeline, and wondered what the hell is going on up there. Nobody has ever known or spoken about it, until now. All anyone knew is that it dropped 3000' in 10 miles and had an almost insurmountable hike in.

Nice post. I flipped my raft on the Lochsa once in Old Man rapid--a nasty hole at 12', though easily missed by anyone paying attention. It swallowed my boat like a garbage disposal. My friend, following along on his first time down, decided I hadn't gone the right way . . . when he was using his boat to heard mine to shore where I could grab it, he had his first heart attack: old man rapid indeed.

I know the territory around Old Man Creek, but it never occurred to me to walk up there, let alone try to float back down. Great story.

Rad. Yeah, I’ve looked up that creek a few times. Cool that they fired it up.

Talk about “gripped.” I don’t boat, but that is compelling! Well done.

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.
