Vintage Ski Film Thread
Yeah, we all know the WMP movies, Matchstick, Sweetgrass, PW, and other well known or modern production houses, but how about a place for those ski flicks that are lesser known classics? I'm not talking Blizzard of Ahhhs, Downhill Racer, or Hot Dog...The Movie, I mean motion pictures like these:

I offer two ( and more ) nominations :
Barrymore's 'The Performers' (1971) or his feature film which never found an audience 'The last ski bum' I believe... And
for those still interested in Racing history, the Jalabert productions from the 1970s ( and earlier ? I don't know - )
I will insert a link to the 'Performers' trailer -
( I don't know if these are available online )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaS9CJlnO_8
Thank you - I Like the idea of the thread...

Phil "Shake and Bake" Sifferman did this little spoof on Top Gun. Kind of fun one that probably no one here has ever seen.

These are all great, but I love that Edelweiss film, especially how they just take off for Lovers Leap and pole and herringbone their way there, no skins, just their regular ski gear.
(Lovers Leap where McConkey did his first Ski BASE.)
Here's another great oldie...

Weird, I've been thinking the same thing, the yout00bs feed has been serving up the classics.
I think Barrymore was the best.
Point releases at 2:25?

Remember enjoying a film called 'ski ohne grenzen'. Featured a couple of brothers hot-dogging. The bit that sticks in the memory was when they skied with both of them on one pair of skis - two bindings on each ski.

Somewhere around 72, I found out the Seattle public library system had a stockpile of older and some current 16mm skiing reels you could check out free. Got a projector, picked up a half dozen films and a keg. Hang a sheet and it's showtime. There were a couple Barrymore flicks amongst them and they were highly liked.

Ski race clip from "Der heilige Berg" ("The Holy Mountain"), 1926
German silent film starring Leni Riefenstahl & Luis Trenker, directed by Arnold Fanck. Very advanced for the time.

Wow, "Early Skiers" is a treasure, with a Fixin-To-Ski soundtrack to tele boot! What a nice Christmas present - thx!
From the vid info on the YouTube paqe...
This is vintage footage (circa 1930) of ski touring and telemark at the top of Donner Pass before Sugar Bowl Ski Resort was even built.

One from the mid 70's by Barrymore: "High Cost of a Free Ride"
It takes a lot of time, devotion, training, and injuries to be at the top of your game, but when conditions are good you are happy to have paid that high cost. The mountain can be exceptionally good some days. Those days the high cost of getting there are worth a few more rides. DenLast edited by dewam; 12-25-2020 at 06:14 PM. Reason: alcohol poisoning
