The passing of Pat Martino hasn't been mentioned. He's been in heavy rotation in my office, damn fine music for grinding out reports on the computer.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of jazz, but I have been listening to Miles Davis a bit recently, I was listening to On The Corner the other night, while I was mounting my new skis.

This showed up today. Waiting for the kids to fall asleep so we can finish Xmas setup.
I stumbled across this at grey whale, and when they went to wash it, it broke, so no luck. Checked Spotify and apple music, no dice. eBay to the rescue.
Chill downtempo stye remix of the original herb Alpert's tijuana brass band whipped cream and other delights album. Bunch of different artists remixing, and new trumpet from herb. Click image for larger version.

here's a drummer i came across after hearing his drum solo sountrack for Birdman. i later found out Antonio Sanchez also did the drum solos for the cable series Get Shorty.

not sure how i went so long NOT knowing of this great (and very much recorded) drummer. metheny played locally recently. if i'd known sanchez was in his group THEN i'd have gone.

this album changed my ears forever.

tim berne continues to produce challenging music on his screwgun label.

Jazz really is a world of its own, isn't it? Wayne Shorter embodies the spirit of jazz with his incredible talent and versatility. His work with Miles Davis and his solo endeavors are timeless. It's like that moment you described with Material's 'Hallucination Engine'—when jazz blends seamlessly into your surroundings, creating a perfect moment. And speaking of Miles Davis, it's pretty cool to see his influence reaching into fashion with that HUF clothing line. Shows how jazz icons continue to inspire beyond music. Then there's Eugene McDaniels, a genius in blending genres and pushing boundaries. His work, especially in 'Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse,' is a testament to the depth and diversity of jazz. It's like a never-ending exploration, each artist offering a unique perspective on this rich, ever-evolving genre.

RIP Les McCann, a pioneer of the electric keyboard.
Fun fact - when he first did “Compared to What” live with Eddie Harris, he was so baked on hash he didn’t know what he was doing

    THEY SHOT THE PIANO PLAYER
My grasp on Jazz is pretty loose, so some of this film went over my head.
I understand why they chose Jeff Goldblum as the narrator, but he was ultimately distracting. The overall “mystery” was basically solved early on, so the search for the “truth” became a bit redundant, not to mention confusing trying to keep up with all the various people being interviewed.
The music was stellar though, as is the animation.
In short, if you are a fan of Bossa Nova, I would recommend checking this out.
