First question is how old is it? Could have had issues and Wifi killed due to hardware or the antennas even, or it could maybe just be a setting. Have you done a backup of the configuration before? Maybe try a factory reset and attempt to set it up again. WIfi analyzer to see if you have other signals stepping all over your Wifi could be a problem also- especially the 2.4 Ghz which only has 11 channels and 3 are unique and not overlapping.

Remember years ago when you said "router" the first thing people thought of was a tool to make rounded edges and plunge cuts?

I had a router die the other year. The wifi one, I don't own any woodworking tools. Although I wish I had so I could shred the damned thing when it went down at the most inopportune time.
I still call it The Jake.

Yesterday I gave up on the router finally. Today I checked it again for some reason and it's working fine. Beats the shit out of me but hey.

So many call their Wide Area Network- WAN that gets them to the Internet their Wifi... That is wrong, as wifi just usually gets you to the local router without a cord that has the Internet connection off it. Was the router running hot to the touch? If you plugged a PC or had a PC plugged into the router and that had the Internet work, then it could had been only Wifi (and the broadcast of the wireless signals) from the antenna(s)...

Maybe it was just the provider with a service disruption

No, there's two networks each with their own router running off the same cable with a splitter. One side kept working, the other side stopped and then came back. The side that stopped was broadcasting something - my phone and computer showed a full signal - but when you went on that network there was nothing there. Zero data.
Speedtest showed it was connected to the internet but when you ran it it came back with an up/down of zero/zero. It's a wack setup that evolved, it has needed to be burned down and rebuilt for a while now.
