According to the Oxford English Dictionary, nog was "a kind of strong beer brewed in East Anglia".[5] The first known use of the word "nog" was in 1693

And yet. Eggnog is MADE WITH booze.
But my whole life it’s been sold plain, and you mix booze into it.

Reading some real recipes over the years, it’s mixed as a boozy drink, and actually can keep for a surprisingly long time at room temp.
Some say it’s better aged months or years.

I've got 4yo nog in the basement fridge. My wife won't allow me to drink it while she's in town...

I had some ~10 year old nog at a neighbor's house once, it was good as hell, there was zero indication age had hurt it in any way.

Ha, thanks. So there is no consensus on a good pair and after trying on a few shitty ones in the last couple days, I’m sticking to pants. Bibs are too much work finding the right one. I’m not putting in any more effort to buy something I’m not sure I’d like.

    Pants are low-stress purchases.

How come it seems like only old people drive Buicks? Was there a time before I can remember when younger people considered them also? Or have they always been for old folks?

They got rid of Oldsmobiles and I guess they had to drive something.

In the day, Buicks were in the slot between Chevy and Oldsmobile, for guys in their 40's and 50's who had made a couple bucks but still thought they were pretty sporty fellas but not as sporty as those Pontiac guys. Skylarks and Rivieras were kinda cool.

My father was committed to GM--started out with Chevy's, the Buick, then Olds. Never made it to Cadillac. I've never owned a GM product.

My uncle was a career Ford guy, kind of a bigwig, a regional manager. When his retirement was coming up they changed his job so he had to spend all his time driving from dealership to dealership all over the midwest. He had a heart attack and died while driving to some dealership in Ohio in a snowstorm, fortunately not killing anyone else. I've had quite a few GM products but I'll never own a Ford.

My old man tells tales of his college car, a baby-blue Skylark with the 400 v8... "the Machine". One of the A/C modes sent all the cab air through the custom glovebox carb chamber for uber insto hotbox.

Placebo effect is a real thing IMO. But they should have tested with flower cannabis with a heavy indica mix. My neighbor has horrible constant back pain and lights up first thing in the morning, I asked him if it dulled the pain and he said "Not really, but the pain doesn't bother me as much when I'm high and I'm happier."

On concrete roads, what are those etches at expansion joints for? The ones that are ~1 ' long and 2" wide - maybe 5 of them going across the lane.

If i am thinking what you are thinking they are dowels to keep the individual panels from displacing while allowing expansion/contraction. They are put in during retrofits, not during the initial new construction.

Honestly, this is not surprising. Placebo contributes significantly to pain reduction from opioids as well:

    https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.0702413104
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6725254/
    https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...article/482600

Also, there's a misconception that placebo effects are purely psychological, when in fact they have very real physiological effects. As noted in the links above, administration of an opioid placebo creates endogenous opioid release that is responsible for the pain relief report by study subjects, and that pain relief is reversed by administration of opioid antagonists.

The Placebo Effect is one of several types of "Belief Effects" that profoundly affect physiological responses. Dr. Alia Crumb has done fascinating work on this subject: https://hubermanlab.com/dr-alia-crum...h-performance/

Opioids, ime don’t do much for pain, I just don’t give a fuck about the pain. Robaxin and NSAIDs do a lot more for musculoskeletal pain.

Weed makes me relax and that lessens the pain.

Hmm, the grooves are milled in somehow and then a rod inserted and then they are filled back in but not all the way to the top?

^ This. A number of times I’d see trauma patients (fractures and such) on the hill start smiling and even laughing after getting fentanyl. I’d ask them about the pain and they’d reply, oh it still hurts, but…
