I tend to have a lot of them. Here's one:

Has Xtratuf gone to shit? I thought I read something about that. Saw a pair in the store today but then I started thinking I read that they suck now. Do they?

My wife had a pair of American made Xtratufs last 2+ seasons of gillnetting but killed a set of Chinese made in less than 1 season. This was in 2015 so perhaps they suck less now?

They suck now. Former great brand revived by chicoms and trading on old name. No different better or worse than lacrosse, muddy, boggs etc.

    What's the burliest wool pants?
I've had the same pair of woolrich hunting pants since 1982.
They pockets have worn out and my girth is stretching their capability.

I'd buy another pair, but I can't find a contemporary retailer.

    What else?

They have suspender buttons; the suspenders are an add on.

Were I living in a cold climate all the time, I'd get the bibs though.

I have some woolrich pants (I think?) if you want them. Probably a 34" waist. I'd have to pull them out but they are too warm for me.

To sort of link ötzi’s and Buster’s thoughts, I’ve been wondering if Filson’s stuff is still good. I heard they got bought out by a PE outfit, and things seem to go to shit when that happens.

That came to mind because Filson’s burly wool britches used to be the bomb. A lot of their stuff was awesome back in the day. I was thinking of buying myself a tin cloth jacket for Xmas.

I used to get wool pants at army surplus stores. Are those a thing any more?

I've scored some good wooly britches recently and need suspenders...ideally some good leathers for the button-on attachments on the woolybritches. Recs?

The bags are still nice, my son bought one recently. No real idea on the clothes but since they still make some good stuff maybe it's all still good? Maybe?

While not leather, can’t go wrong with falling pants suspenders. Brand Husqi or Stihl blaze orange.

MS, I’m still rocking my army surplus heavyweight wool cargo pants. But they are starting to thin a bit after 20+ yrs in the winter wilderness. I have not found a source of replacement in the past decade. I fear the days of $50 surplus wool pants are gone

Military surplus is available on line and some foreign militaries still had/have wool for their winter fatigues/BDUs for short money along with more modern fabrics. Sportsman's Guide would be an example.

Me too. I've looked for those old cheap woolies, which were a great value, but can't really find them anymore. Looked at Filson and a bunch of others, and finally decided wool weighs too much and I don't like hiking miles elk hunting with that weight on my legs anymore. Replaced them with Eddie Bauer fleece lined pants I got at Costco. Great cold weather hunting pants. Warm and quiet, and good pockets.
