If by somewhat humane, you mean live trap, I have a lot of luck with these.

Thanks! I suppose I was thinking I would shade closer to a death sentence trap if they were super effective as long as it wasnt some glue-like torture device. But if I can trap them effectively without killing them and then release them on my neighbor's property with the barking dogs at all hours, that may be a win win. Appreciate it.

Timely post. Mousetraps make great stocking stuffers. Keeps the kids alert.

Why can’t I ever remember the random unthreadworthy questions that come to mind when I’m not on TGR?
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Snap traps are definitely the answer if you don't have a bottle of vegetable oil you can spare.
Seriously, though. The glue traps are cruel and poison is both cruel and the mouse will go somewhere inaccessible but smellable to die. Those Victor traps are touchy as fuck, though, and a little sketchy to set up.
PIC traps are the ticket, they work like a champ and are dead easy to set: https://www.zoro.com/pic-simple-mous...-2/i/G0416194/ And they're reusable indefinitely as long as you're not the squeamish type.

Super effective but one in every so many mice kind of explodes out the back end and makes a fairly nasty mess. Just wondering to be aware of when choosing trap placement...
Tangentially related, but a little garter snake got caught in a glue trap in my garage several years ago. I felt so bad for him that I cut his head off and quit using glue traps entirely afterwards.Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.

Ok, its a trap off. One no kill trap, nominated by Meadow Skipper, and one kill trap nominated, surprising no one, by the guy who mauls animals for sport. I will order, document and report back.

If you get a head shot with the snap traps you get blood spatter. Just fair warning.

Getting a cat will also work. However that's not totally humane.

The problem (especially with old ones) are that they might not be primed for the XXL sized mice...
Woke up in the middle of the night couple of years ago when I lived in an old house with mice.
Stumbled through the semi darkness towards the sound of movement and whincing, saw the trap had been dragged 2m my a really voluptuous individual.
Sleep deprived and pissed off, I took a piece of firewood that was lying nearby & finished him/her off with a proper blow, took the trap and threw it outside and went back to sleep. When I came back to bed, Mrs.Meat asked "what was it"?
- "Nevermind".
Next morning woke up to a loud cussing and yelling: "WTF IS THIS SHIT!?"
Got up and went to check out what the fuzz was all about. Saw a huge blood spatter + intestines stuck to the adjacent wall of the incident, semi dried.
- "Honey. Don't worry. I will scrape it off and paint the wall later."
Went back to bed.
Fuck that was gross.
The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Not as scary as being passed by a Renault on the Autoroute.
RE mouse traps, I got one similar to the PIC--plastic box like thing. Much easier and less scary to set than the old fashioned one and I did catch a mouse with it. The second mouse I watched avoid it, run around it, run over the top of it once. Guess it learned from the first mouse.

Why are wiper blades so insanely cheap at RockAuto? Premium winter beam blades that are $20 at Autozone, etc. are $5 on RA. Even with no free shipping option at RA they're crazy cheap.

Had a few of those in the basement. Gave up on them after:
1) finding a baby mouse right behind its mom on one
2) finding a mouse with exceptional upper/front body strength who had managed to pull himself a few more inches forward, though his lower half remained in place.
Fucking disgusting.
