I was just being silly about Twin Peaks. But there were some really funny parts...
And +1 for Soap.

SOAP: Good call.
After looking at this thread and thinking about it, my top 5 are:
Seinfeld
M*A*S*H
Taxi
Soap
My long shot is Barney Miller.“How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? I don’t know, go ask Rory Gallagher”. — Jimi Hendrix

Great mention - Fernwood 2 night. Groundbreaking stuff.
I worked a job with Martin Mull and he was awesome. Very appreciative and he liked hanging and chatting with the trades during breaks and lunch. I don't get star struck for many, but he definitely was one of the few.

I can’t believe that I didn’t think of The Honeymooners Which may be my greatest sitcom of all time

Wonder years was classic, rewatched the whole show with my 13 year old son. Couple more that I don’t think we’re covered, may not be top 5, and maybe not exactly sitcoms, but ones I grew up with, and worthy of mention
Dukes of hazard?
Brady Bunch
Threes company
Cosby show
Whos the boss
Facts of life
Golden girls
Happy days
Married with children
Different strokes
Mr Belvedere
Chapelle show
In living color
Greatest American hero

Chapelle show and In Living Color were sketch comedies, not sitcoms.

I'll just mention a few that haven't been listed or arent getting much attention despite being great.
No love for Growing Pains or Family Ties? Mike Seaver was one of my early heroes. So was Wesley from Mr. Belvedere.
Eastbound and Down
The British Office is near perfect TV
Frasier
Arrested Development

Yeah Bob Newhart Show was tight. I also could have mentioned Taxi, mash and MTM in my lists but it's best sitcom ever right?
I think my winner would probably be Soap for belly laughs per minute. But hey, that's like 40 years ago so yeah, memory...?
T the E - Cosby Show??? Really?? Different Strokes??? You just putting down all the sitcoms you remember? Fuck that shit was lame even to 18 year old me. Some of the old Cosby albums had their charm certainly, but all respect was gone after Bill was found guilty. Shit I even threw out 4 albums, just couldn't listen to him.

I’m not going to try identifying the best three sitcoms ever- I could probably name my favorite 3, but that’s not the same.
But I’ll say that no situational comedy has ever had more situations than ‘Allo ‘Allo. And it’s probably the only show that had “The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies” as a regular plot point.

Seinfeld, of course.
Here’s a couple I haven’t seen mentioned yet (but I didn’t read every post):
Broad City
Better Things

I mus admit i never liked seinfeld. Is it an American thing?
How I met your mother spoke to me in a "you're in that stage of life" way and i like romantic things. and i also enjoyed big bang theory until it was all about the girls additions (season 3 or 4).
Marvelous ms. maisel is decent. (is it a sitcom?)
But i've never had any favourites. Im not much of a sitcom guy. unless you count the orville. which is way better than anything in this thread. Period. And i say this although i don't know much about sitcomsIt's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

I don't think so. I remember it being funny, so we tried re-watching it a few years back... it wasn't nearly as funny as I remember. That said, there are some *iconic* scenes in the series. The rental car sketch is one that is really hilarious.
