I can’t believe I’m seeing mentions of 2 & 1/2 men, Big Bang theory, and other laugh track garbage. I thought we were better than this.

Replies are pretty much based upon era, as expected.
60s: Dick Van Dyke show
70s: MASH/All in the Family
80s: didn't really watch much TV
90s: Seinfeld (although with repetition the episodes tend to get annoying rather than funny)
2000s: Didn't really watch much TV.
10s: Didn't really watch much TV.
Simpsons should be in there somewhere.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Biggest omission is Jeeves and Wooster with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.
But the answer is Seinfeld.

Someone needs to include I Love Lucy if we are stepping in the way back machine for the classics. Most of the other mentions owe it a lot as inspiration and some of the gags hold up really well.

Way back machine.... Dobie Gillis.
I actually only have vague memories of it but it was my brother's favorite show. Bob Denver as Maynard G. Krebbs was a memorable character, pre-Gilligan.

When I was in college, weekedays starting at 4:00 those 4 ran back to back to back to back. We called it the 2 hours of power and would rush get home and settle in with the bong almost every day. Then, something to eat, catch the end of Wheel of Fortune and then Jeopardy!
them were the days.

M*A*S*H is probably my number 1. A show that can make you crack up and cry in 22 minutes.
Seinfeld is absolutely brilliant, but it's not my favorite. Best ever, yeah, maybe, but it's hard to put it at the top of the list when none of them are likeable. Which I know is the point, but...
Do the Simpsons and South Park count?
the best one I have seen in recent years is Parks and Rec."fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy

I'll add Hogan's Heroes if it hasn't already been mentioned
Monty Python's Flying Circus

M*A*S*H hands down #1. Satire, slapstick, politics, social commentary and heart all perfectly rolled into 22 minutes. First season or two was a bit rough, but once Harry Morgan arrived it all clicked.
I Love Lucy #2
Cheers/Seinfeld #3
Friends/Laverne & Shirley/WKRP/The Good Place/Frasier/Fresh Prince/Family Matters somewhere mixed up the rest of the top 10. Can we still say the Cosby Show was good, or are we required to hate all things Cosby now?
I can't say I've followed many sitcoms since 2000. Maybe 2.5 men, but it doesn't belong with the top 5. The rest I tried to follow but ultimately gave up on because the characters was just too grating. I'm looking at you Big Bang/Schitts Creek. I know I should watch Curb, need to make time for it. It would probably make my top 5.I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Early mash was good. Had the edginess of the movie.
Colonel Blake was classic bumbling c.o.
Once colonel potter came on, it progressed into sap and messages and minimal humor. The last few years were pathetic.
Rewatch the movie, and realize how far they strayed.
Python is sketch comedy. But awesome.
Before my time, but the honeymooners deserves a mention. A black and white married with children.. . .

I can't believe no love for MTM or the Bob Newhart show. The writing was TIGHT for those shows. Great casts. Bob Newhart, a stand-up and comedic genius with incredible timing. MTM, while easy on the eyes was very smart and funny and a damn good actress.

Everything that’s been mentioned, how about Wonder Years? Freaks and Geeks was a short run but good with a good cast

Not best ever, but I’ve always had a soft spot for The Young Ones.
