Those of us working in hospitals see this shit daily. It’s frustrating and anger inducing. Before this I’ve never heard physicians express the sentiments of “fuck these idiots” when talking about covidiots

That one lady who can't hang with her newborn is telling. She's confused because she's read that you "can still get it, you can still spread it" even with the vaccine. And she's also read good things about it but just can't decide who to believe. So she errs on the side of 'no vaccine for me.' Her problem, like many, is that she's putting equal weight on the validity of this information on both sides. I'd argue what you're being told isn't as important as who is telling it to you. I liken this inability to critically assess sources as a mental illness.

Is this your “average healthy American” that you guys are telling me is at low risk or is this lady one of the people who is overweight, probably doesn’t eat anything other than processed fast food and more than likely hasn’t set foot in a workout facility (gym or even daily physical exercise) in years. But you’re right; people like this should get vaccinated because of their high risk and likely hood to be hospitalized due to severe complications.

Yes, they're still saying not enough data for J+J, but I can tell you that at Columbia/NY Presbyterian they are boosting immunocompromised who got the J+J with the Pfizer shot. And the googlez just told me that same/similar is happening in some places but not others--one medical type basically said that there isn't a downside to receiving the booster so a lot of places are just doing it.

Again - the point stands. If this is the type of people you’re worried about plugging up the hospitals - I understand. It’s not the people like myself who go to the gym 3-4 times a week, have physical labor jobs that work outside 5 days a week and don’t eat out more than a couple times a month that are overloading the hospital system.

You mean like the 30 something Hispanic orchard worker on a ventilator at my hospital? No co-morbidities.

It’s amazing that you’ve made it this far with your terrible reading comprehension… you seem to be able to pick points and throw out outliers but can’t seem to counteract the point that these are not the people that are causing the “overwhelming strain” on the healthcare system. It’s the people in the video posted that aren’t in good health that are clogging up the system

Yeah I went ahead and did it. I actually had to lie to get it - CVS wouldn't give it to me when I said I was vaxed already because of State guidelines so I went somewhere else and said I wasn't. Didn't have much of a reaction to the shot, sore arm and tired for a day is about it.

Guy just like you died in my town a couple months ago. Father of my kids' friend, mid 40s. Posting pics of skiing in Jackson and Alta just days before he got it. Two weeks later he was being taken off life support. It was honestly shocking how fast it happened, especially to a relatively young athletic guy. I think about it at every high school track meet when watching his daughters compete. Their dad is dead and it happened practically overnight. It is hard to watch his kids on the track and still buy into the idea that only old and unhealthy people are dying.
One day in our local paper there were three obituaries for men in their 30-50s who all died from covid. All active and healthy looking.
Funny how the idea that "it only happens to other people" is such a persistent part of human nature. Even in the face of numerous examples showing otherwise, we still believe that. And not just about covid, about lots of things. I've been guilty of it myself. But at this point I've seen enough to not believe that about covid anymore. Super glad my whole family is vaxxed. Extended family too, almost 30 people. Not a single disbeliever in the bunch.

How can you possibly argue with people who are actually working in hospitals seeing this first-hand while you sit on your couch, taking care of your body like a temple?
It's ridiculous.
"I think x is happening."
"Actually, I work in a certain setting and can tell you things are actually very different."
"Oh, that's interesting. I will change my point of view."
This used to be a thing!

I added a Moderna shot to my April J&J about 2 weeks ago. It knocked me flat for a day but I'm feeling really great about the decision.
The pop up clinic that did my J&J must not have recorded it, so I was not listed as vaccinated in the system. They Moderna shot pharmacy didn't ask and I didn't tell. Now I guess I'll show up as one of the idiots who didn't get second shot... Maybe more info will come out and tell me I should go for that too, though.ride bikes, climb, ski, travel, cook, work to fund former, repeat.

I love a motherfukker who can't spell accusing someone in health care of a lack of reading comprehension. Is this rj's buttfuck cousin who's come to pick up the slack?

I’m also worried about the internet taught immunologists who say with authority stuff like “you’re a fucking retard. You don’t get the shingles vaccine if you’ve had chickenpox before”.
It’s people like that who are telling the overweight people wrong information (as we saw in the video) - which is then overwhelming the hospitals. How is it that you do not understand that even if not obese you are part of the problem?
And that’s leaving out the fact that Delta will fuck up a healthy person.

Everything I've read reporting on the current delta variant says it's the unvaccinated that are clogging up the hospitals.
Especially the ICUs.

Just a friendly observation—yes in this thread mtu has occasionally fucked up in an easily identified misstatement, like the shingles thing, but to a casual observer it seems that most of the arguments with him are tangled up in semantics and therefore could go on forever. There are many solid and crisp arguments for why a healthy young person with no comorbidities should get vaccinated…why waste breath on a discussion of what percentage of the infected in hospitals that are unvaccinated & youngish w/ no comorbidities constitutes a ‘clogging up’?

There were a few people here and and many more on social media arguing cases in Iceland, Israel, and the UK mean vaccines don't work. The latest data from Iceland shows vaccines are preventing 60% of the vaccinated from any infection, 90% protection against serious illness, and when there are breakthroughs 97% of vaccinated cases have mild or no symptoms.
https://www.reuters.com/article/fact...-idUSL1N2P918F
And even though numbers from Israel and the UK show vaccine efficacy against Delta especially in >60 is reduced with time after the second dose over the next 6 months, it's not yet clear how much is Delta or waning immunity. It also looks like the overall breakthrough rate is as low as 50% in Israel. In context, the serious cases to date represents less than one ten-thousandths of the vaccinated population. As a relative share of cases they're seeing something like a tenfold reduction of risk in terms of disease.
So the problem in American is even though vaccination rates don't appear too far off when comparing the UK with the US, the US vaccinates teenagers whereas the UK doesn't so overall America has much worse coverage with older age groups. The US also has a lot geographical differences especially along political alignment versus the UK.Last edited by MultiVerse; 08-16-2021 at 03:13 PM.

semantics ain’t the reason arguments are gonna go on forever.
mtu got conned, he knows it, he needs an off ramp that won’t let him lose face and he ain’t gonna find it here. He needs a new messenger, unfortunately he’s plugged into the dipshit sphere and they want him to die.

my argument is not about the seriousness of shingles - it's about the firmly held belief that anyone who reads a paragraph on the internet about shingles is now a board certified internal medicine specialist that understands the workings of human physiology and pharmacology and therefore can make expert level decisions about complicated subjects and can teach that knowledge to family, friends, and co-workers.
And when faced with the harsh reality that they get even the simplest shit wrong there is no reflection or stepping back - it's ignore that time they called someone a fucking retard while being 100% wrong and just moving past it to remain locked in this fantasy.
Sure - narcissists and Dunning Kruger sufferers always existed - it's just that now in this age and with a pandemic they get to fuel misinformation which leads to people getting fucked up by covid yet, while sitting in a hospital on oxygen, still weighing scientific recommendations against what their beer league hockey friend emphatically told them was true.

There used to be a time when people were open minded and could change their opinion on something without feeling like a total failure. They could have objective conversations and be friends with people with differing opinions.
That time was before selfies.

This is spot on. There are tangible reasons for vaccinating - both benefiting the recipient and society at large. The purposed side tracked argument (form of whataboutism) is pointless:
"....But we're not the *most* hospitalized"
"....But we're not the *most* susceptible"
"....But we're not the *most* vulnerable/in need"
As if everything must rise to an immediate crisis level for that particular scenario/group before we take preventative action... Things improve due to incremental and overlapping measures. Belt n suspenders. Comprehensively applied at scale. Yes, it takes reasoning and tact that maybe isn't conditioned in the group accustomed to paying rent/bills 5 days after they are due.
