"Nobody expects the shingles eruption"; bad juju.

Curious if anyone's heard about adapting the new mRNA vaccine technology for influenza vaccines? Would seem to potentially provide a significant improvement over the old tech.

^^^ For sure this is going to advance the world of vaccines for a lot of disease. And that will probably harden the anti-vax crowd even more.

FWIW out of all the jabs this past 20 months, Shingles2 kicked my ass the most.

I will, but that doesn't mean that I have to be thrilled about it.

    How ya doing now?

I had the same progression - body tried to freeze it, then burn it, then suffocate by plugging up sinuses.

Of course. I'm going to just hope that my two Moderna and one Pfizer will suffice until the spring.

Ditto - nary an issue with three Pfizer's but on my butt for Shingles2.

I took it as a really good sign I got it.

At my age??? And I would think I'd need to get tested for HPV first since I've had warts before???

I'm guessing we don't see as many people arguing about their natural immunity to HPV vaccination.

Yes you do. Same with riser
I’d been real hesitant because a guy I worked with had a bad reaction from it and damn near died. This was like 15 years ago.

But this year with three Covid and one flu shots already in the arm, I figured I should follow Bunions advice to Harry (“hike up your skirt and grow a dick you fucking crybaby”) and get shingles vax too.

Reaction was about the same as a flu vax. Much gentler reaction than P3. Pharmacist sez get next one >3 & <6 months.

Yo. Anybody else notice how we conveniently skipped the Greek letter preceding Omicron? Ohhhhhh, right. It's Xi. Funny how that works.

Just not "Nu" or "Xi." Haha. At least someone at the New York Times was actually paying attention:

The W.H.O. skips forward two Greek letters, avoiding a Xi variant.

    Fuck.
I figured the cute little gotcha you'd show up with was 'omicron is an anagram of moronic'.

On Oct. 20, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced a crackdown on unemployment benefits. She required recipients to double their job-search activity, and she imposed strict audits—with the threat of cutting off payments to anyone who fell short—to ensure that “no Iowan who is receiving unemployment benefits unnecessarily remains on the sidelines” of the job market.

Nine days later, however, Reynolds signed legislation that pays vaccine refusers to do just that: sit on the sidelines. Under the new law, anyone “discharged from employment for refusing to receive a vaccination against COVID-19 … shall not be disqualified for benefits.”
    Hmm

They didn’t want it to be confusing by people thinking it was called “new variant”

Which to anyone who is not a moran makes perfect sense.

Then they didn’t want to name it after a common Chinese name - especially given that it’s shared by dear leader.

While this also makes sense I can easily see how people with an IQ under 80 think this is funny or a conspiracy/coverup.

I still need to get mine, but my wife had a fairly strong reaction--expecially to the second Shingrix shot. Pretty much out of commission for an entire weekend. Certainly still preferred to actually getting shingles.
