My wife got her second dose of Pfizer last Thursday. More soreness around the injection site than the first dose (which she said was similar to a flu shot). Some chills that evening. Very fatigued the next day. Completely fine by Saturday.

    What's with Health Care Workers?

We've thoroughly discussed the limitations of knowledge within "healthcare workers" which span from janitor, to filing clerk, to billing specialist working from home on up to virologists and epis.

But as a group they are more likely to be young women of child bearing age and/or to have have had COVID-19 and thus be immune. In my hospitals the number # hesitancy was "I already had COVID so I'm going to wait a few months" followed by "I am/trying to become pregnant so I"m going to wait a few months."

4 people in my son's special operations surgical team group--not sure which specialties but at least one is a doctor--are declining the vaccine. I'm surprised the Air Force gives them a choice--especially since flu shots are mandatory.

(Each team is surgeon, ER doc, nurse anesthesia, icu nurse, surgical tech, respiratory tech)

Exactly my experience. Currently covering for a colleague unable to work today due to same symptoms but worsened severity due to 2nd vax yesterday.

Air Force has long had a reputation for most "evangelical Christians" at the Service Academy level. Probably means they have more than their fair share of Trump/QAnon Kooks at this point. It's the same thing with different window dressing.

Sorry that your kid has to work with them.

He went to the military med school in Bethesda. (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences). He says his class was heavily Mormon. He doesn't talk politics much with the folks around him. Other than that he likes it fine--stuff like forced marches up Charleston Peak with 50 pound packs appeals to him. He likes playing with guns as long as he doesn't have to point them at people.

My sister, cousin and sister in law had their first shots. Sister had a temp of around 100 and felt like shit for two days but the other two were fine. I would take the shot in a heart beat as soon as I am able to get one.

Ahh, gotcha. I'm not trying to knock his career choice. That was just the rep of the Air Force Academy in CO for a long time.

Back on topic: my better half is scheduled for a shot tomorrow. I'm looking forward to full 5G service for the adults in our household.

I was severely disappointed. There was no increase in cell service when my wife got her first shot. Must be a bad batch.

Our county sent out a media blast yesterday announcing a sign up google doc. Super simple, just asked for email address, ph number, and what tier you fall in based on the table provided. They estimate late March for me but the intro explains that if you’re able to get to the local vacc center quickly after receiving a text message, you could get it earlier depending on how things roll out.

Just think, in a first world country this type of approach would be implemented in all counties early on.

Wife had Pfizer #2 and no adverse effects. Several other nurses/docs that work with her had #2 and some pretty serious side effects from fatigue, nausea, etc. Our top thoracic surgeon was out of commission for a couple of days.

My daughter in PA school had #1 Moderna, became nauseous and fatigued for a day, but OK now.

wifey and i both did novavax trial, i'm pretty sure she got the real deal and i got the placebo. oh well. we can unmask after we get the booster on feb 1, and then get pfizer if either of us are in the control group (1 in 3 chance).

Meanwhile Sacramento is still trying to figure out how to give the vaccine and to whom first. They've had months to figure this out. More meeting planned. While I get the idea that the most vulnerable populations (ie POC) should be prioritized, wasting time trying to be sure everything is absolutely, totally, precisely, completely fair kills everybody, especially POC. And they're still hung up on trying to convince every last person to get the shots when there isn't nearly enough vaccine for all the people who don't need convincing, and won't be for a long time. (Maybe we need a great businessman to figure this out; I know one who'll be leaving his current position in 8 days who might be interested.)

I'm getting absolutely fed up with Newsom's failure to prepare to administer vaccines. Currently at ~800k shots administered out of 2.9 million doses received. And just yesterday they announced the locations that they will begin setting up mass vaccination clinics. That is appalling. They should have figured this out in November and rolled out in December ready to start when the first doses landed. Between the 2.7M infected and 2.9M doses, we could have 5.6M people walking around with some level of immunity, but we don't because that wouldn't be fair. Now is not the moment to find the most woke solution, it is the time to grab whomever they can get and stick them. I am still very much of the opinion that any vaccine left in the freezer at the close of business every day is a failure. We are failing, but I hope that will start to change, and soon.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

FFS. Not that kind of unmasking. Think "unblinding."

Fatigue and nausea aren’t serious side effects.

Just got an update that our school staff should be in line for vaccines in 2-3wks; we're the back end of 1B in Colorado. Pretty psyched. My wife's swollen/itchy/red arm from the Moderna finally died off after ~10 days. She was def pretty fatigued and generally felt off for most of the time.

Pitkin County is a shitshow with covid currently; 3,000+ incidence rate, but the county has done a pretty solid job with the vaccine rollout.

Ya, while our community has sucked at social distancing (based on everything I see when I'm out and about), I'm excited that the rollout is going smoothly. By the end of the week, we could have close to 10% vaccinated, while probably close to 15%-20% of people have already had it (using positive case numbers and knowing how many people simply haven't been getting tested.).

The Department of Health and Human Services is expected to announce sweeping changes Tuesday in vaccine rollout guidelines in an effort to boost the lagging number of vaccinations in the first month -- effectively adopting the approach proposed by President-elect Joe Biden's incoming administration.

The Trump administration plans to release reserved second doses immediately, a senior administration official tells CNN. The official expects reserved doses to be distributed over the next two weeks.
New guidelines: all states should get anyone over 65 vaxxed, and those under 65 with comorbidities
