Haha solid thread; closed on our house last January; so first time doing lights.
Got 200’ of SPT-1, 100 LED C9 white bulbs and 100 LED C9 red.
Assembled then used vampire plugs to light the various strands!
Stoked on the outcome but damn, lights are expensive. $450 for just the house.
Figure I’ll add a feature each year!

Christmas Light Stoke
Been in the house 12 years, and finally sacked up and hung icicles from the highest point on the roof. Sketch AF up there, but attached securely enough that I shouldn’t need to go back up there for years. White wires not totally obvious against the white trim, so easily ignored the rest of the year, plus I like to flip them on every 4th of July in place of fireworks.
Good to see I’m not the only one decorating front and back. Will be working on the tree and interior with wifey over the weekend. Will probably be easier on her nerves than watching me hang from the roof. Mother Nature conveniently kept the roof snow and ice free until just after installation.
This one just came up in my fb memories from last year. (really needed those lights on the 2nd story) Looks like we've got about the same base depth this year from last.

^Classy!
I like the colored lights too, but the wife prefers white. Georgetown has a Christmas light competition every year, with prizes for top 3 classical, and top 3 contemporary. Apparently they consider any yard sculpture and colored lights to be contemporary, so lighting the lift chair keeps me out of the money every year. I guess I could go full Griswold and try to clinch the contemporary prize, but not really our style, and we don't do it for the competition anyway. The town gets a ton of foot traffic, and seems like more homes decorated this year, and the usual suspects putting in more effort. It's going to be a different holiday season for sure, which maybe explains people embracing the simple traditions. I've always loved seeing houses lighted up for the holidays, and hope at least a few find the view uplifting.

Not my place, but this house is about 5min from me and they go crazier every year. I can't imagine the electric bill.

Just saw this thread. I used to put up lights but it was a pain so I stopped.
This week I was just in the mood and since there is absolutely no snow in the yard or the forecast I decided why not? I bought some lights today and with the lack of snow am thinking abut trenching power instead of just running an extension cord.
I have this nice Sub-alpine Fir in my yard. Dug it up with a backhoe in 05 when it was much smaller, threw it in the truck bed and eventually took it home and planted it. For years it barely survived, probably just to spite me for ripping it out of the ground at 7800' and taking it down to the valley at 4800' but about 3 years ago it started to grow and fill in. It will look good with some lights on it.
After how shitty 2020 has been so far for so many, this seems right.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Went a lot easier this year. I individually boxed the different lights last year by where they went. I also marked any strings that had sections out so I could replace the bulbs before I got them on the house. That and the new Gorilla 3 ft platform helped this go up in about an hour. Net lights on the bushes are the greatest invention in the history of X-mas.

If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be another year older when you do.

Not much, I think I'll add a little more, but next year will be a bit better I think. It's a start.
Did a few of the pieces with the kids.

This is what we’ve done for this year. Only the 2nd year here and last year we didn’t do much. I might run lights around the upper roofline left year.
The wreath lights on the second floor are on batteries and timers. They just run for 12 hours from the time you light them, and repeat that each day. Easy peasy.
