The jacket works best when it's almost too cold to ski. But when you need/want something warm, there's nothing better.
I don't wear a hood while skiing, but I do wear the hood on the chair when needed and I thought the hood had good coverage with my medium helmet.

FYI, a lot of companies design around an M or L helmet size. I have a huge noggin, Flylow Quantum in L worked well with an L Giro when I went to an XL in another brand, I found a BD jacket with ample hoodage.

i've been a big fan of TNF Summit for awhile. very generous hood and a true shell with nice big chest pockets that are accessible even in a harness. haven't tried on the new futurelight version though, only used to previous gore-tex pros.

I sized up on my S/Lab kit this year for exactly this reason.
