they responded to my comment on Instagram but have not responded to emails or phone calls. I’m sure they’re busy as hell. I talked to a guy at SVST today who said pretty much everyone is out in the warehouse packing boxes getting orders out.

Mammut got back to me today. Their entire CS team has been out sick with COVID. They said they’d never seen this issue. They are sending me a new unit.

Both of my units arrived and appear to be working properly. Hoping to take them out for some training this weekend.

I wasn't gonna say anything about COVID, 'coz someone would just say I'm a fanboi, but think about this folks ... we're 10 months into this madness and people seem to have forgotten that businesses are impacted by this.

Are you referring to software that retailers have (https://www.mammut.com/us/en/service...vice-software/)?

Yup, but you need a W-Link, which I blanked in my initial reply. W-Link is pretty pricey but it's available (or was) to public through ExpertVoice.

I got this email from Mammut regarding my dead unit.

    ——————

    Mike,
Thanks for reaching out. We found that your original new beacon did not have any firmware on it.

Mammut had many Barryvox beacons in the warehouse after the 3.4 update came out, so customer service was tasked with updating a very large number of units and this one seemed to have been improperly updated.

The good news is that it was actually a very simple fix and your original Barryvox is up and running with the newest firmware 3.4 and now in our demo fleet!

I apologize for the lack of a timely response from Customer Service. We are all deep in the weeds due to Covid as well as an unprecedented uptick in backcountry sales.

If there is anything you ever need, do not hesitate to reach out.

    Kind Regards,

thanks for sharing the conclusion and bringing this full circle.

Anybody had an issue with this beacon where it WONT shut off?

Got one like a month ago and everything seemed fine while playing with it, picked it up today and turned it on and now it won't turn off unless you remove a battery. Switch isn't stuck or anything, after putting the battery back it stays off until switched on again.

    Hasn't even been outside yet.

I have several F1 and even an old F2 that I use for practice beacons (although we are starting to rotate modern digital beacons out for new). For shits and giggles, I'll take the F2 and try finding 2 or 3 buried F2's and my current Pieps Pro. In straight forward burials, I am still comparably fast using that old analog. And there was something to be said for activating the unit by attaching the harness, search with a simple dial with a working lock function. No software updates that might affect performance. I do love several of the advanced features and search distance of my Pro, but a part of me wish to have a 3 antenna base digital version of those old F1 beacons.

Ooh reminds me I gotta see if customer service can help me. Local shop couldn’t flash the upgrade and said I needed to get with the vendor.

Just received my Mammut Barryvox in the mail this evening and one thing I noticed is how easily the battery door opens. I can slide it open with minimal pressure using my thumb in the same hand I'm holding it with. Is this common with the device? Not sure if I should reach out. Seems strange that there wouldn't be some form of locking mechanism.

    Here is a video I took: https://streamable.com/5tpjpz
