Lol.
"Dr. Octagonecologyst has since been ranked as one of the best hip hop albums of the 1990s." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Octagonecologyst
We had that one buddy in undergrad who was always hip to the cutting edge shit. This album was brought into our house that had a 6 disc changer that rarely swapped out the discs: John Cougar Mellencamp's Greatest Hits, Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders, Wu Tang's 36 Chambers, James Brown's Greatest Hits, The Rolling Stones Greatest Hits and Bob Marley's Legend.
We had no clue what we were listening to but it was bizzare shit with crazy lyrics, classical music over some of the best scratching we'd ever heard, and a made up character front man that the album told a story about. Once a year it gets a listen just to remind us how weird and awesome it was. It'll blow back some Carhartts in a lift line that's for damn sure.I still call it The Jake.

workin' as a liftie
I’m surprised you got a gig. Snowshoe has the same lifties that were there when I was a teenager. Wintergreen brings in South Americans who, disappointingly, don’t ski so I’ve given up asking them about Las Lenas or Portillo, as the case may be. I figured it was the same all over the SE.
If the weather continues as it has, the dress for the cold advice doesn’t apply. Maybe consider which flip flops and Hawaiian shirts are best for bumping chairs. Also, don’t forget to add some Sturgill, Stapleton, and Childers to the list. Good way to reach across the aisle while still enjoying the music.Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

At least not at work.
I so rarely listen to hip hop anymore since its sucked since the 90s, but the one time a year when I listen to that album it takes me right back. Right back to saying, what the fuck did he just say??? before he's on to some other equally bizzare lyric. There's a lot to unpack there.I still call it The Jake.

Man it's a bummer to see you taking that approach to music. Need a blanket to go with the rocking chair?
More music is being made now than ever before in the history of the world. There's new good stuff all the time. But nicely done introducing someone to dr octagon, kool Keith has made so much music under a ton of names

I know, get off my lawn kids. WRT hip hop, I just don't like autotune, people don't seem to make their own beats anymore and trap all sounds exactly the same, never mind unintelligible mumble-rap. Give me Beasties, Tribe, Wu, Gang Starr, Heiroglyphics, De La and all the other associated great acts from the 90s over what I hear today. In that regard I'm old for my age for sure.
Don't get me wrong, I still try new music all the time and in the last year people have gotten me into these guys, which are pretty great:
So, old dogs and new tricks still can be a thing I guess.I still call it The Jake.

I like the bandcamp best of the month articles, though I tend towards the metal, electronic, and punk lists. Still, clicking play at the top and letting it go is a fun way to be exposed to stuff. https://daily.bandcamp.com/best-hip-hop

You invalidate yourself when you mention Beastie Boys with the greats. I know all of the cool kid skiers are going to flip out, but they had one good album.
But yeah, you're old. Go listen to ASAP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, etc. and put them in one of your old guy categories above.

You know, a lot of the guys I listed above would disagree with you. I recall an episode of Fallon last year with the living members of Tribe and the "old days" came up and the passing of MCA. Q-Tip said those that think the Beasties aren't great hip hop "don't know their history".
We're all entitled to our opinion, but the Beasties are flat out baller musicians.
That said we should check in on EWG. How's it going man, make it through?I still call it The Jake.

Not sure how you guys can discuss great hip hop without mentioning Will Smith at least once.

I was considering dust after listening to Dr Octagon, but didn't know where to get any. Now I'm thinking gorilla glue. But I don't know where to get that either.

Fucking hydraulic turtles. I don't know what they even look like and that's all I can think of when I close my eyes.
