unless you’re shoveling, you will not be doing enough activity to keep yourself actually warm.

Bring heavier clothes than you would normally wear skiing.

good boots are key. Try to get a good winter boot with the thickest sole possible. you wanna try to insulate your foot from the ground as best you can.

Don’t wear any steel toed boots or any boots with steel shanks in them.

    top shack is the goal.
i'm planning on wearing my mountaineering boots. scarpa mont blanc pro gtxs. you see anything wrong with those?

I was a liftie for one yr too. It was fun, but I soon realized my ski patrol friends got to move around more, had more camaraderie. But a fun way to get into the scene, although probably not as fun this yr, unfortunately.

But as mentioned above, you've gotta love a liftie that tries to enjoy it and there have been legendary lifties too over the years- the best one that comes to mind is "gogogo" at Mad River
Here one guy at Casper lift is always making you smile or laugh.
Then at the Sublette lift they have a cone at the edge of where people try to frequently load too soon and it's emblazoned with "Danger Zone" which is a crowd pleaser

sorels- third or fourth that too.

That was the best when I was a liftie. $100, straight cash in the form of a crisp Benjamin.

In my case I was typically cold and bored. I did alot of skiing though.

1 season was certainly enough for me.

No shit? Huh. I was never a lifty, but as a ‘troller I received a certain amount of interest. The women co-‘trollers told me they got a surprising (to me) number of inquiries as to my status. I was married, so I had to let it go by.

I guess I don’t really know how the lifties fare.

I wore imitation sorrels. They were fine. Bumping chairs will eat good ski gloves pretty quick. Wear the cheapest insulated leather work gloves you can find.

After your one year of experience. Apply for a lifty job at Alta and live in the buckhorn. You’ll ski your ass off and have a ton of fun.
