9 year old got a new body for his kraton for Xmas. We finally got around to painting it today. He did a lot of the work masking, painting, and stickers. And while there are a few defects if you look close, it really came out quite good. Not a bad way to spend am afternoon.
He's super stoked.Click image for larger version.

Hill climb action with the Mojave. The boys kraton had his steering servo crap out. Gonna have to get a stronger faster one.

Oddball Lipo question if anyone could oblige. Why is an eg 3S lipo sold as 11.1v, but you charge it to 12.6v? Why not just call them 12.6v in the first place?

That is its nominal or storage voltage. You can safely charge LiPo's to 4.2 v per cell...so a 3s has a max voltage of 12.6 v but a nominal or storage voltage of 3.7 v per cell or 11.1 v. You don't want to keep them at full charge (12.6 v) for more than a few days...they can start to puff up and lose their capacity and have a higher likely hood of catching fire or exploding.

I get that. Understand completely lipo storage and full charge voltages, handling, etc. Just a hair up my ass kind of thing I can't seem to get over.

The rock racer looks badass. I haven't played with one of those. How tough? Fun to bash around?
I kind of want another rc, and really should get something other than another ARRMA 6s truck (cause have 3 already).

It’s fun. Totally different than a basher like you use them. High speed over rock gardens and loose is really where it excels. Then still capable to do some trail running. Small jumps are ok, but I haven’t sent it big yet.
Pretty durable, I upgraded the trailing arms and went brushless. I have only broken a front drive axle. But that was my fault, I had the drag break set for a crawler. 30+ mph to instant stop snapped it at the hub.

My son wanted a skateboard for his birthday so I got him one and got myself a surfskate, so I'd be entertained while he was learning. I never really skated before but I figured what the hell.

Surfskates are basically wideish boards with high, tippy trucks that turn at extreme angles (compared to standard and longboards). You generate speed with a motion more like pumping when you surf and end up making way more turns than you would on a normal board.

So far, it's been awesome, though I've been way more committed to learning than my son. Our street has a nice gentle grade which is fun to ride. I've spend a number of mornings riding up and down it while my son does other things nearby. I sometimes bring his board and gear out to both encourage him and make it look like I'm not playing alone in my ridiculous mountain bike protection get up.

My wife finally got him to skate tonight and he did well and had a lot of fun. He'd basically start with the wheels in a road crack, get on, then ride downhill for a while until he lost his nerve and jump off. Good times!

I had to throw a new steering servo in the 'yota. I think the cheap ass light controllers might be to blame. In other news, the boy is still just as enamored with the Blazer as he ever was.
