Got any good music documentaries?
I was skeptical that a YouTube free movie would be good but this one delivered:
I'm not a big fan of Dave Grohl but he tells a great story here and the music history is quite fascinating.
The old pictures and band history is an cool insider view to the industry back then.

(it won't show the preview here because it is age restricted)
What faves have you got?

WE ARE TWISTED SISTER
I am by no means a fan of these guys, but this doc is fascinating and goes deep. I had no idea that they had been around since the '70s and were down with Lemmy from Motorhed.
HIRED GUN
Pretty cool doc about session musicians.
808
If you grew up on '80s rap and electronic music, this is a decent doc about the legendary drum machine. It is a bit scattered and non-linear and some of the stock footage and interstitial can become repetative and annoying, but there are some great interviews floating in between the annoying stuff.

LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE
As with the aforementioned Twisted Sister doc, I am by no means a fan or LR and really only knew her in passing growing up, mostly because of her high profile romance with Jerry Brown.
But this doc goes deep, has some great interviews, reveals her connections to Neil Young and The Eagles before she became a pop star and sex symbol.
I came away with a solid respect for her as a musician.

Been watching a good series of documentaries on the Minneapolis hardcore scene in the early '80s. If you're from there you'll like these.

I was going to mention Instrument too. Fugazi is fun to watch. Ian can be a dick though, berating the audience for being too aggressive at Fugazi concerts or for being too mellow at The Evens concerts.
Jaco is a good documentary.
Pixies Loud Quiet Loud
I haven't watched any but I know there's some documentaries of GG Allin out there...Those outta be interesting.

There was one on Showtime (I think) a few months back. I made it about 1/4 of the way through before I thought: why is anyone celebrating this fucking idiot...what a piece of trash.
It's one think to be "punk;" it's another thing to be a waste of oxygen.
I always like watching Decline, Part I. Especially FEAR!...b/c they're awesome and they make me laugh. And "American Hardcore."
Not really a documentary, but I love the Commitments. Great music and it plays like a documentary. It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.
