^^^ I agree with everything you've said here... but I also don't think it hurts to wear one. And it's also why we are told to still distance even with a mask on... which a lot of people don't bother doing once the mask is on.

I'll add that I'd guess that most health professionals think they work or someone speaking out against them wouldn't have the reptocutions you're talking about.

Honestly, for me willingness to wear a mask is beneficial even if all it does is signal to me that you're aware of the pandemic and you're doing what you can. It more accurately, if you can't be bothered to do that one small inconvenience, what else aren't you doing that I should be concerned about.

I.e. this friend that invited me to revy... I don't think he gets and and I'm no longer sure I want to even do a day trip with him locally if he's demonstrated that he won't follow the rules.

No expert but like I said before lots of training in PPE gives me enough knowledge that a piece of paper or cloth is not going to protect anyone.

Regarding masks, comparing a protocol of a public health order to a workplace occupational hazard is a false equivalency. Workplaces are controlled, the hazard is specific, and the worker's ppe is tailored to the environment and the worker, and established in conjunction with several other controls. There is no way to apply those worksafe protocols to the general public in an effective manner. The mask wearing as just a part of the entire health protocol, along with limiting travel and gatherings, favouring outdoors over indoor air, social distancing, etc, etc. All are needed to limited the spread of the virus and attempt to reduce the burden on the healthcare system.

Regarding the off-the-cuff advice of medical professionals, I find suspect any statement that contradicts a public health statement. There are appropriate avenues of contributing a dissenting opinion (i.e. with their college or association), and except in cases of perceived significant risk to an individual or the public as a whole, putting those opinions into the public sphere is not one of them. Physicians, nurses, and other registered medical professionals do their professions a disservice by naysaying the public health orders. Wrong place, wrong audience.

Nobody wants to wear them, we just do it. Think of it as a new sort of "change for a nickel" sticker, but instead of advertising your affiliation to a bunch of internet ski degenerates, you are telling the world "hey ya, this probably ain't gonna do shit, but we're all looking out for each other which is cool, ya dig?"

Yes, the government is stupid, and in like 4 years when the COVID-19 documentary comes out we're gonna laugh at how fucking stupid we all were.
