Going to be silly now -
Looks like stay at home order is lifted. Saturday’s forecast is clear. Any bets on lift line times?

STATEWIDE stay at home will be lifted. Counties will still determine what works for them (ie LA County and outdoor dining). Now that said, everybody is going to hear the headline 'stay at home is lifted!' regardless of what any counties say.

    Good clarification

It sucks to see that Inyo and Mono counties are the 2nd and 3rd highest per capita, only behind Riverside.

It doesn't look like lodging is really available right now in Mammoth - hotels aren't taking reservations yet and there isn't much on Airbnb. I guess I don't see how it could be that busy (hopefully not famous last words here) given that you can't really day trip there effectively from any major population centers.

Curious. What did dragons back zones to ricochet look like more storms? Can’t imagine this will stick to rocks too well.

Last weekend was already 2-3x more crowded than its been this whole year on the mountain IMO. This weekend is going to be crazy, Airbnb's are already full as they were allowing people to lie on an exemption form as long as you keep it under 30% occupied. So lots of Airbnbs are already booked for this coming weekend.
Predictions on Saturday? Most of the mountain shut due to avy danger, 1.5 hour line at 16 and/or 8.

I agree 100%, it was busier on Saturday than it has been since November - it cleared out super early though and everything around Chair 12, 3, and 23 was empty. I'm crossing my fingers that the hotels not being bookable and the scarcer than normal Airbnb availability keep things reasonable/safe.

I can't get out mid-week this week but I'm stoked for anyone who can!

F&ck it’s cold! In the truck w/ heater on trying to get feeling back into my toes. 8 deg & 40+mph winds brings the wind chill down below zero. Wind blown snow forming in pockets off 23. Won’t be long till chairs start shutting down. Out for a few more.

WIth the plan of positioning myself in the eye of the storm I left Reno early this morning and headed down to Mammoth. Roads were slick with chain controls up for much of the drive. Got on the hill before 10:00 a.m. for the coldest, windiest day by far I've skied this winter. Winds were gusting 40-50 mph over the top and brought the wind chill down to -15 to -20 deg according to a patroller I talked to. Snow was 8-10" of low tide, blower pow. Ski the trees at your own risk.

Solitude, Ch 5. Groomers skied well as the wind moved the new snow around and buffed it out.

Ch 23 ran all day offering some fun but very cold skiing off the top. G2 ran briefly before the wind shut it down and ch 1 shut down in the p.m. as well. Lower dropouts had some good wind blown in places, but you definitely still hit bottom in places.

Riding up 23 at 1:30 p.m. Wind gusts were hitting 55+mph and in the time it took me to take this pic with my glove off my finger tips went numb and I had to go in and warm up. Skiing was good if you could take the cold.

Looking back up West Bowl. Skied til closing with a few stops to get warm late in the day. Hoping to get some storm riding in tomorrow if it's not totally blown out.

Close to 2ft of blower pow in the driveway. The temp at the main lodge was in the teens last night as it was dumping out. The greatest snow on earth is right here for now.

Took a lap on Chair 8 first thing this morning. I’m 150lbs on 189cm Cease & Desists. Pointed it straight down the steepest line (admittedly still quite flat) and immediately got stuck.

But great to see the snow pile up!

    yep..chair 8 & 15 only today.

thought 15 offered the best option..longer runs and no line.
doubtful on any other chairs for tmrw..maybe 4, 2, 1?

    Nice shots guys!

Glad you are all having fun.

I might be able to sneak in a Mt. Baldy day tomorrow before the next storm hits down here. The great thing about all this is that Baldy should be pretty dialed for a good, long season after this. I'm probably going to hit Baldy on Sunday and possibly Monday too, if I have a productive Friday and get some work done on Saturday.

I won't be up at Mammoth this weekend, but I will probably get next weekend, then a 5 day trip around President's Day. Hopefully this comes in as everyone hopes and the mountain is set up.

For you guys up there, have fun and be careful.

    EMS,

I love that shot of Hangers, Varmits and MJBs. That whole zone is fun when it fills in like that.

Crazy day on the Mtn and down in town as well. I'm not sure if I saw more people stuck on the Mtn trying to ski or ride, or down in town trying to drive. Snowed hard all day and with only chairs 7, 8, 15, 17, running, the snow was to deep and not enough pitch. I'm guessing 60" of new snow has fallen in the last 24 hrs.

Main Lodge was closed all day so I started off skiing out of Little Eagle. Snowing hard mid morning. Did a couple runs off Eagle Express and then decided to look for steeper runs and skied over to Canyon Lodge.

Came down Blue Jay to this, Ch 8 line. F@ck me! Took about 25 minutes to get thru this and I skied a few more runs off Eagle Ex. The snow was so light that you went right to the bottom of it. Waist deep but couldn't move.

Only hill steep enough to get enough speed to turn. My buddy following in his tundra took these. Street skiing is not something I do regularly do, but WTF.

At 8:00 p.m. the drive way was blown and the trucks were completely shoveled out. This is at 2:00 a.m. All that fell in less than
    6 hrs.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but not much more may be open tomorrow. I texted a buddy on patrol and he said to expect about the same as today. He said they were up on 22 and hit tons of obstacles/rocks. He said 22 may run Friday.

Don't stress if the roads are closed and you can't get here, you're not missing much in regards to skiing. This is from Mammoth's morning report today (Thurs).

"Another very stormy morning here at Mammoth Mountain. In the past 24 hours we have received 45 inches of New Snow with a current Storm Total of 64-76 inches.

Expect whiteout conditions throughout the day with chairs 7, 8, Schoolyard Express (17) and Eagle Express (15) and the Village Gondola expected to operate. A blizzard warning is in effect through Friday morning and operations will be very limited throughout this storm cycle. There are no operations expected out of Main Lodge today."

If you enjoy being stuck in deep snow and post holing out of the tree's, todays your day. Time to bust out the snowmobiles.
