Never heard of the Willowas, but I’ve had some great skiing in the Wallowa.

Thanks for the info RT. I think that if I am going to drive to baker city I might as well
just drive to joseph for more snow & more terrain.

I guess I'll just have to save Anthony lakes for next winter when it gets outrageously deep.

I don’t think it’s very complicated, you buy the pass, show up, ride the lift then ski down

Well, that day exceeded expectations! Left Seattle at 4am and was at top of Bachelor Summit by 10:05 (no traffic in the early morn'). Lapped 6" of spring powder off west side of mountain until they closed it at 1pm. Great day with perfect visibility.

    Hi neighbors -

Thinkin bout a trip to Bachelor this Friday with my little family. Never been there when the lifts are turning.

Main mission is to get my 4yo girl a full day of mellow cruisers. Wife and I might take a couple laps each, too.

    Couple questions:

    1. Is it ok to assume that we can share one adult ticket? Put it on a ring or something to take turns?

    2. What's the best spot to set up base camp for a grom-centric day? Assuming Sunrise upper.

    3. We'll be bailing after the lifts close Friday afternoon, heading back north. Can you recommend a cool camp spot within a couple hours of the ski hill? Was thinking maybe along the Deschutes somewhere but I don't know shit.

Feel free to PM if non-public replies are better.

    Thanks!

friday evening, spots start to fill up w/ the weekend fly fisher peoples
however, I don't think the big hatch has kicked off yet so it won't be nuts
winds can sometimes be sporty in the canyon but you guys have a hardside

Mecca Flat cg is right off 26 if you want to go by Hood
The access road is gravel (< 1mi), so a little lumpy but not crazy in any way

If you were trying to go up near Maupin/Sherar's Falls, I'd maybe wander down to Beavertail cg to get away from the overview of other homes in the canyon & just get the canyon views. That's a little further off the route home, but you can map it and take a look

any time river, mi casa es tu casa
    i completely understand the allure
of the wallowas this time of year:

    drive an extra hour
    skin an extra 2000'
    and camp .... where?

Thanks man. Fisherfolk and weekender activity noted.

We've got just the topper on the truck this time, so rough roads aren't a concern (and perhaps a welcome filter for avg bears).

We've actually been to Beavertail before, in the time before kids. Cool area for sure... might be the ticket again.

Thinking we'll take 97 up into WA, looping back to Alpy from the east for the closer on Sunday if we can snag a reservation.

Poacher - will reply to PM in a bit

Norse, yes to # 1 unless the pass isn't working at the turnstyle for some reason and you have to show your Ikon to the lifty (Bachelor uses turnstyles and RFID to check your ticket). I had no issues with my Ikon in five days skiing there this winter. You don't need to get a ticket with Ikon like you do at Alpental. You go straight to the lifts with it. Regarding places to camp, Camp Sherman area on the Metolius is great if you want to come home via Santium pass, which is almost just as fast as the Govy Camp route. Interesting seeing all the damage from last years' fire around Detroit Lake. Skull Hollow on the BLM land near Smith Rocks.

Our neglected neighbor to the north is skiing quite well. Snowpack isn't nearly as dirty or sun cupped as what I have seen on hood recently.

4100'. 2-3 short carries above. Didn't stick to the road above morrison cr cg. My guess is snow all the way to cold springs on the road.
