The New and improved Oregon 2020/2021 Ski Season Thread

Had a day at the doo for the first time in decades on Saturday. Fun day. Great laps with the fam off the top patch with the good pitch towards mt Washington all day.

The general feeling is they are not as serious about mask enforcement as meadows but there is some effort by the staff.

Lots of parking there but I’d want to be there closer to 9 to get a reasonable spot to park on a good weather weekend day. Looks like many walked a mile plus to get to lifts that day.

Really? That family may look funny in those fart bags, but most of them are ripping skiers, even the youngest of kids. They’re polite and respectful, ski a ton of days and seem to be having a lot of fun. I don’t know who they are but definitely worthy of some industry support, maybe new matching one pieces

I concur. Team Johnson can ski. Nice folks too.

Took a safety break off the side of a run today. The Over the Hill Gang (+70) rolled by and all 10 of them stopped and 1 asked if I was ok and what I was doing. Said smoking the Pot. They all laughed took off and the last guy says, Good one!

We parked at Hoodoo at ~10:20 on Sunday and were in the upper lot by the entrance. I figure that is pretty good for MLK weekend. I agree on the mask enforcement, but it seemed good enough for me outdoors. Seemed like people were wearing them as directed, in line and on lifts.

I have never been to Hoodoo (or WP) and like to visit on powder days when Meadows and Bachelor tend to get hectic, but sounds like it has been discovered already. What about weekdays… on a powder day? I’m guessing it won’t be as crowded as the “others”. Not familiar with terrains - are the lift ops affected by storm like Meadows and Bach? Thanks for the info.

I thought safety break is what you call snowboarders sitting on their butts in the middle of the run on the blind side.

So Jonesy, give me some beta on Doo on weekdays.
Does Doo gets as bad as Bach on pow days - the lift lines?

Weekday pow sessions are quiet at the doo. There are some "moderate" steeps off the backside that you can lap on the Hodag lift. A low FL is key for quality pow. That said, we need 2 feet to cover the Manzaneta bushes. Thrifty Thursdays seem to draw a crowd. Oh and we provide free feel ups with ticket purchase. I'll keep you in the loop when it looks prime.

And Mondays, and Tuesdays. Unless you have gear and knowledge.

They just want to pop. If they wear black, I have to ask them if they have anything a few shades blacker (quote credit: Andy Wright on The Bomb Hole).
