Conditions @ bachelor were like a Snow globe. Light snowfall & a slight breeze. No lines was nice. Trace of new has softened the ice on the groomers. Off piste is skiable but low fun factor.

Doesn't sound that great. Meadows has an early load event for Sahale passholders tomorrow but I'm not sure it's worth it to drive up just for an hour or 2 of dust-on-crust before work. It is probably more like dust-on-ice up there at this point with under 1" of fresh following 2 weeks of rain.

Its going to take a few inches to bury that ice.

Dumping here in SE Bend. If this keeps up, I might need to do a Pilot Butte lap at lunch time....

Thinking about bringing the truck/camper from pdx down to bachy this weekend. Snow just isn't cooperating here at hood.

Any good camping site recommendations nearby? Got 4x4 and good clearance and don't want/need utilities. Would prefer to stay away from RVs in the parking lot.

Plenty of Forest Service roads. Swampy or Edison Sno Park work too

Bachy was pretty unexpectedly good! Still a very firm base, but the new snow was excellent and it stayed soft all day.

I dunno if it was a weekend crowd or if the firmness threw people off or what, but I had more snowboards and bad skiers try to hit me today... strange.

Shitshow for traffic in CO. 9 car pileup by the house, 2 bus wrecks. Wife was in 1 as a pu rearended the bus she was in at a RR crossing. Clowns in cars. Hoodoo was a dust on crust and a wet cold. I hate that.

At 0615 there was less than 1” at that stake, and forecast was freezing fog.
So I called an audible and went to the Doo

Yup, Doo’s base was firm but carvable with a trace laid down in waves. Viz sucked.

    Vibes on the close calls

There’s also a crash on Hwy 20 at Black Butte Ranch that has traffic stopped in both directions
    Ms Jonesy OK?

It wasn’t THAT wet/cold in the AM but I left at noon when the ceiling dropped.

Sisters got about 4” today, Doo gets a skiff. Go figure

The New and improved Oregon 2020/2021 Ski Season Thread

I can report dust on crust at hood today as well. I’ve had worse. Glad I went but the patellar tendinitis really feels that crust right now.

Hit up Bachelor for some human powered turns this morning. 2 cars in front of me were turned around for apparently not having parking reservations. One TN and one WA plate. Get a clue people. Then pulling into the parking lot some guy proceeds to walk backwards while trying to get a pic of the hill, and just about went under my front left tire.

Snow on the cone was nice and light. Edges were finding that very firm crust underneath that 8" of fresh.

A bit windy by the end of the day, but hard to complain about conditions higher up.

That’s a VERY wide set of tracks there Larry Craig...
But yea it was firm. Hodag side was FIS firm. But at least I could see 20yards ahead.

It was a little busy on the runs.

Camo is high fashion at the ‘Doo
I’m learning that it’s best on weekends to be ready to hammer from the opening bell. First hour is ski-on while the day-ticket GORGs go thru all the lines. By 1100 they are geared up and the lift mazes are clogged.

I told you not to offer ladies a feel-up with every lesson.

Did you make sure the kid’s boots were on the right feet?

I actually did a gear check. But the 6 yr old did something I've never seen, ever. He got his skis going opposite directions. One forward & 1 backwards. I didn't know legs could do that. I almost barfed. Patrol was packing off bodies left and right in the pm.
