Congratulations SM. That Westside drive can be tedious at times between the Elk & Doug fir across the road. Will catch you @ the Doo.

Very cool - how many days per week do you expect to be coming up?

FWIW I was traveling for business 3 weeks/mo when we had a 2yo. Leave Sunday late PM, get home late Friday PM, spend two days getting over jet lag, repeat. Ms TBS survived, we stayed married.

The New and improved Oregon 2020/2021 Ski Season Thread

Everyone was out today to enjoy the sun. White R. was a fucking shitshow when I was going home. I have never seen it that crowded. MHM, otoh, was downright civilized. Lots of space to arc turns. Ride on laps on cascade from about 11a on. (I’m happiest when Vista is spinning and taking all the road furniture over to that side of the hill 🤪 )

Higher traffic pattern today at the Doo. Which polished up the groom to a smooth hard finish. Lines shortened up after noon. No sharks yet. We could use some flakes.

Premium quality conditions for the Doo. 6" of wet mank with ice patches. Those tiny winy technical flaws surface quickly. I work at a strange resort.

Surprisingly soft on everyone's favorite dog park today. Conditions look firm for opening week.

Another notch on the skis. Reservations went easy but the lift line was another story. Just ask tbs. Decent coverage and good snow quality. The highlight was bbq salmon and brauts. Not up to mattig standards but still good.

So what’s the lift line situation like at Bachelor? I am skiing right on the lifts at JHMR the past 2 days. No tram either but not worth it without more snow.

How full was the Bachy lot today? Did it look like they were letting people in later in the day after the morning crowd thinned out?

Well the Crack of Nooners were in full force when I was going back to town at 12ish. Which answers the other question as to lift lines. It started thin alittle at noon but not enough for me. I'd say a typical bachelor weekend crowd.

Fun to ski with Jonesy and Geppmeow today at the 'Bach

Observations after one day at The 'Doo and one day at Mt B

Snow was good both days. Spring-like.

'Doo riders understand spacing and masks. The lift crews are cool but demand compliance.

MtB lift crews were doing a good job for first day under weird circumstances, but there's only so much they can do.

Over half of the patrons at Bachelor cannot visualize what 6 feet looks like. For reference, the distance from my armpit to fist is 29". Length of pole from bottom of grip to basket = 38". The point of the pole is 3". So if I draw blood by stabbing someone in the neck. ribs or thigh with my pole it's because they were inside my 72" safe distance.

Many at Mt B can't understand the signs that say "put your fucking mask over your fucking face in the fucking lift line". A lady in the line with her buff below her chin asked if I wanted to join her. "Not when you aren't wearing a mask I don't". "Oh" she sez

I'm taking a course of steroids which may make me a little more aggro than usual...

Buff + sunglasses = no bueno. Instafog occurs when over your nose and you might punch yourself in the face trying to adjust buff while entering the maze. Goggles over buff works without material fogging.

Letting my beard grow for a thermal face blanket doesn't work with a buff - gotta trim beard short instead of yanking hair out when pulling buff over nose.

Got kinda crowded with only Sunrise, Sky and Pine open. Lift lines at Pine and Sky were shitshows at 1000. I'm wondering how they are going to open up more parking when terrain is limited like this. I cannot imagine what the holidays will be like if Mt B doesn't get a LOT more snow in next two weeks.

I have parking reserved through this Friday. My next available reservation is January 19.
At 3PM I cancelled my reservation for tomorrow but it doesn't show yet up as available. Hopefully this will all work itself out.

'Doo pass is looking like a smarter and smarter investment

T-line and Ski Bowl said fuck it and did away with the reservation system. First come first serve.
