Geebus, I've lived in almost every corner of BC in more than a half dozen small towns, and I've never encountered crazy the likes of which are being described here.

I suppose that could mean I am that neighbour....

    Nah, unpossible.

Acquaintance of ours in the country--a developer had an easement across their property and wanted to use it to mine gravel for the nearby development he was planning. They fought it with the county and the developer lost. He made one mistake--the proposed development was called Mohammed Acres.

The tides are turning. Great state of Ada and the recent influx has us pushing 4-5 counties depending on which topic you’re inquiring about.

Learned a bit about isisis’s situation and it really is a bummer. It would be nice to see more places like that left alone.

Hey man, I've been meaning to ask you: how's that event venue/rifle range coming along?

Totally understand the reticence to confront that kind of person. Really unfortunate situation you found yourself in. At the same time, the guy has a right to earn a living within the laws and regulations of the area so i think the fairest way to go about handling the situation is to get together with your neighbors and draft up some limits (hours, # of guests, activities, etc) to his conditional use permit that you all can live with and present them to the guy and the County.

Last resort would be leak the website info and mags could make and then cancel reservations, and leave a google trail of stanky-ass reviews a mile long pretty easily. Think of how shit-talky this place gets during the summer and fall... now imagine if that could be channeled toward your cause.

I'm sorry, but your last paragraph totally flips the coin and makes the maggot the asshole neighbor, not the guy trying to use his property in an entirely legal way currently.

I don’t know the laws in your state, but conditional use and special exceptions are rarely granted if there is a shred of meaningful opposition in PA where I live. Band together as neighbors and show up at the public meetings. Consider protecting your investment in your property by jointly hiring an attorney to channel your thoughts and present the most meaningful opposition. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Usually 3 choices in a landuse dispute, to put broad categories on it. I've seen all 3 strategies employed, though rarely #3 and only when its gotten personal as its never the smart financial decision:

    1) Work it out amicably, usually through a compromise (either agreed to, or mandated by a jurisdiction).
    2) Resign your position and kill the project or move away. not worth the fight. C'est La Vie. Plenty o' Fish.
    3) Out asshole the asshole. fight fire with fire and/or fight a war of attrition until the opposition gives up.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. He absolutely does have the right to earn a living, I get that. Given previous encounters, & the fact that his actions to this point have not followed the local laws & regulations (what little there are), I am not optimistic about compromise...but we will be group-minded & work towards the goal of resolving things peacefully. And I'll keep your "last resort" in my back pocket (nuking from orbit is probably not an option)

Yeah, thanks, all joking aside, that really isn't my style. Releasing a pack rat at the end of his driveway is the extent of my mischief & that plan will probably literally backfire because he will probably use that for target practice!

Idaho needs a really huge Jam band/ hippie/metal/hip hop festival venue. With multiple stages, and camping for 15,000. How big is your property? Because he would LOVE that shit.
