Quite a guy. I wonder what lead him to switch to Irish citizenship and residency,I wasn't aware of that until I read the obit you linked. I also wonder if the "illness" he died from was covid.

i think his expatriation probably had something to do with british backing and involvement in the war. another article i read said he died of a stroke. kinda weird that they said "illness" if that is the case.

Bummer, he was certainly one of the great journalists. His book, "Pity the Nation" should be required reading for anyone with an interest in modern Middle Eastern history.
