THE OFFICIAL 20/21 TAHOE SKI & SNOWBOARD THREAD. PANDEMIC SCHMANDEMIC!

They must have a wide range. We came across their tracks as well.

    We tried to track them.

Seemed like they were tracking us sometimes.

We moved fast but they continued to elude us.

    FYI:

The Village Ski Loft in Incline is selling ski gear for 30% off, which is better than any online retailer. I just picked up some Alpinist 12s.

Tahoe Sports Ltd in SLT is also selling Zero G 95s for 40% off.

The Squaw instructor featured in this couple year old Tahoe Quarterly article is Lowell Northrup's daughter. Perhaps she has some photos and/or memories from that time she might share?

BTW, is that tunnel up to Squaw Peak still operational? Anyone ever been in it?

Interesting stuff. Be fun to hike or bike up there in the summertime and have a look around.

^Way to go SAR. Didn't even show up.

edit-but for serious both episodes were from the victims perspective. it would be cool to see an episode that weaves together the victims side and the SAR response (although the SAR response for episode 1 wouldn't really make a story).

I believe patrol uses the tunnel.

Funny, Pat taught my girlfriend how to ski.

The tunnel is still in use, as far as I know, but not sure I'd call that granite...
John Northrup, Lowell's son and a heavy equip. operator, drove the loader that opened the AM road for the initial rescue group the morning after the '82 avy.

FWIW, Incline Peak skied surprisingly well yesterday. And it was empty due to the kinda shitty weather (fog, wind, and a wee bit of snain).

In regards to Castle Peak, anybody going there on a weekend is an idiot.

I hit the South front face and Coon Canyon backside two weeks ago on a Thursday and while the parking was moderately full (cars lined up and down the road by the Woodward Apts, but the actual Sno-Park lot was empty) and there was a group of about 20 heading out when we arrived, we didn't really cross paths with anybody on our skin up.
2 boarders followed us to the Coon Chutes, but they didn't drop em.

As for wax, I have been a fan of Demon United.

Biodegradable and doesn't brittle up like many of the other bio waxes out there.

It's a bit slabby out there today, lots of dense wet windslabs sitting on top of softer fuzz. Even at mid-elevation near treeline.

I don't believe so on the Sierra thing, but the sno park should be an option now except maybe for the weekends

Aspen tract pullout just west of Sierra allows overnight parking due to local cabin owners needing to park there......assuming you’re trying to access deso......this allows you access to the south Ralston slide path across 50. If you’re going the other way I have no idea........but oh so curious

Patrol got some good slides going at kwood this morning. Looked like Spur was closed for some avy work when we left around 12:30.
