Notes that day tickets are now available at Rose...wheels turning and thoughts of skiing are happening. It would be way more convenient if my primary equipment choices were not still in my locker at Alpine...and then there's Boreal opening tomorrow.

Hit the heave opening day with the little dude - he's got a good run going of 4 years of opening days. He was stoked to not be on zoom school.

The coverage they got from that last storm looked nice and goopy and wind-compacted. Gunbarrel would've been fun.

Fun day. Long lines but better than not skiing.

Have you driven by Boreal lately? How's the coverage? Thinking of taking the kids up there on Wednesday. Still a little hesitant to use the Rose passes before Dec 15.

On Friday everything to looker's right of Accelerator was still kinda bony with some shrubs and dirt showing. The stuff to looker's left looked decent, though...

    FYI/PSA:
Boreal is doing reservations for day tix.
Just went to their site and they are sold out for today (11/23).

Their mottos for the season are:
    "Snowcial Distancing
    "Your car is your lodge"
"Man, we killin' elephants in the back yard..."

    Boreal correction!

It seems that you choose a start time (start times are every hour starting at 9 and going til 3).
Prices change every hour, as well (they get cheaper).
When I looked at the site this morning, they were sold out for 9am, not the whole day (their site is very "busy", as in cluttered, and takes some time to navigate properly...)

Could anyone figure out how much a half day ticket for My. Rose costs? And you notice you can only purchase a half day.

Thanks for the info, we'll probably end up heading up Wed afternoon for a few turns. Maybe hang around until the night skiing depending on how the kiddos are feeling.

Looking at BA's forecast for the next few weeks, thought I better get some. Saturday afternoon on the Summit. About 2.5 feet of supportable base with maybe top of the boot ski penetration. Sunday, went to that top secret location named after the river Julius Caesar crossed in 49 b.c. Supportable base, but significantly less snow than on Donner Summit from 7K to 7.5K. Fills in after that and maybe a 3 foot base with similar ski pen from 8K to 9K. Skied really nice and pretty-much shark free. Saw 3 or 4 other parties out there.

Every other day we are visited by the local bear, including last night.
He opens the door to a posted outside car, sniffs around, finds no food and leaves the door open.

Don't lock your car doors or he will scratch it trying to get in, and put your parking brake on, in case he bumps the shifter in neutral.

At the recommendation of NDOW, I started using a small radio tuned to a talk radio station, and leave it on all night. It's mounted up in the rafters outside the house, between the garage and shed. Since doing that, no bear issues.

NDOW said that bears can't tell the difference between live human voice and radio, so that helps keep them away.

I actually went skiing in Tahoe. It was good, still thin in spots of course.

Might actually have COVID, so seems like solo tours only in the near future. Waiting for test results, but roommate came back positive and we've had a lot of contact recently. Not sure what the proper protocol is for this -especially since I feel 100% healthy and any perceived symptoms are very mild if at all. I'm sure you guys will have a good time discussing/flaming me.

No, I won't be saying hi in the parking lot or at the top of the summit if I see you. It's nothing personal.

THE OFFICIAL 20/21 TAHOE SKI & SNOWBOARD THREAD. PANDEMIC SCHMANDEMIC!

Unfortunately I think the right thing to do is to forgo solo early season rock touring and to quarantine at home until you test negative.

You might have full intentions of not interacting with anyone but you lose so much control over that just by deciding to break quarantine and step out of the house.

What if you get in a car accident on the way to the trailhead?
