THE OFFICIAL 20/21 TAHOE SKI & SNOWBOARD THREAD. PANDEMIC SCHMANDEMIC!
Skied straight up wind board and crust this late afternoon, actually pretty fun (if challenging) conditions. I’ll take crust over mush any day. High winds, clouds, and the rapid onset of darkness (w/ a headlamp) made for an interesting couple hours. Wasn’t much, but sure felt like adventure skiing.
Relay ridge actually looked to be decently filled in. Might be some decent turns up there during this dry spell.

Popped my IP cherry today with a crew of young bucks from work who were kind enough to put up with my plodding skin pace.
I did have to set them straight on the fact that I am GenX, not a boomer, though.
One of them dug a pit and logged all the particulars; I expect that he will post the ob on SAC.
Snow condis were leftover pow for the most part.
Scored three laps over 6.5 hours.
Bases of my sticks revealed that there were a few sharks out there (either that or I am just a magnet for skiing over rocks as nobody else in the group suffered any base grinds).

Well...looks our family's ski team season has came to an abrupt halt. With SF county extending their mandatory 10 day quarantine if you leave the Bay Area, we can't have our kids go to school and do ski team (yes, extremely lucky they are in-person and school is definitely more important.) Bummed for sure since all we do is travel within our household, stay at our house, ski and head home while being masked all the time. Why not do distance learning? The crux is our 4 year old where its obviously not an option. And now it looks like California issued a travel ban beyond 120 miles and mandatory 10 day quarantine if you leave the state...it keeps getting better! [/end of rant]

I was going to suggest a helicopter to Squaw, but even that is 155 miles. Damn.

What are the real world odds the School stays in face -to - face learning? FWIW our mighty overlords up here told city council on this Tuesday that kids would be back in school on Monday. Last night they told the parents that no date for returning would be announced.I'm cool with this, as long as you Kirkwood Bro Brah's stay away from Heavenly when 88 closes- TahoeBc

They are in private school. Private schools are staying open, otherwise parents remove their kids from said school and stop paying tuition.

Yes, honestly thought about moving to Telluride and kinda its still in the back of our minds. Kids are in private school so unless a major covid outbreak in school, they'll be inside learning. All kids and faculty get randomly tested and everyone got tested on Monday after the holidays. So therefore, lying about heading to Tahoe, albeit safely, is a bit tough. Schools make you sign a form that you will the current county health guidelines. If schools don't follow, then their in-person learning exemption may be relinquished...so I get it. Problem is there not much else for the kids to do.

Do they MTB? Seems due to the travel ban everyone in the BA travels to my neighborhood to bike this winter.
Probably safer for them to hit Lombard...
What school?
For what it is worth, I know of a SF private school teacher who is traveling up to her home in the mountains this weekend, and the next and the next. I would highly doubt her school does not have a similar form to sign. I'm pretty sure they rationalized it along the lines if they bring their own food, stay in their own home and drive to the lot and don't go inside anywhere. I mean, I know they were up there over the holidays and says this order went into effect the 18th. They returned on the 3rd. OMG. I know some criminals.
Not telling you to break the rules, but I think Mmm, pow has a point back there.

https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID...-Advisory.aspx
"The State is issuing the following recommendations, which supercede the Travel Advisory issued on November 13, 2020 and shall apply prospectively from January 6, 2021:
Non-Essential Travel [i]
1. Except in connection with essential travel, Californians should avoid non-essential travel to any part of California more than 120 miles from one's place of residence, or to other states or countries. Avoiding travel reduces the risk of virus transmission, including by reducing the risk that new sources of infection and, potentially, new virus strains will be introduced to California.
2. Non-essential travelers from other states or countries are strongly discouraged from entering California, and should adhere to the quarantine procedures set forth in Paragraph 3.
Quarantine Post-Travel
3. All persons arriving in or returning to California from other states or countries, should self-quarantine for 10 days [ii] after arrival, except as necessary to meet urgent critical healthcare staffing needs or to otherwise engage in emergency response. Additionally, this recommendation does not apply to individuals who routinely cross state or country borders for essential travel [iii].
A Local Health Officer may determine if and when the situation within the Local Health Offficer's jurisdiction warrants measures that are more restrictive than this statewide order, and retains authority to implement such measures."
Lots of words like "should" and "recommendation" in there, with no authority to enforce. They are leaving that up to local jurisdictions, which means you can do whatever you want in El Dorado county :-)
I predict that it will be business as usual over MLK weekend."Holy Cow!" someone exclaimed from the back of the stationwagon.
