Newsom's new stay-at-home policy--not in effect yet, but soon.
From the Sac Bee "In regions where intensive care unit capacity falls below [15% open beds], the new stay-at-home order will bar nonessential gatherings and require people to stay at home as much as possible to avoid transmitting the virus. It will allow people to continue with essential activities like going to the doctor, buying groceries and picking up takeout. It also allows distanced outdoor exercise, like hiking, and outdoor religious ceremonies.
Retail will be allowed to operate in those areas at 20% capacity. Schools that have already reopened for in-person classes can remain open.
All playgrounds, indoor recreation, salons, museums, zoos, aquariums, movie theaters, wineries, bars, casinos, live-audience sports and amusement parks must close in regions subject to the order."
I don't find an official version of the policy--I guess we'll see it when a region reaches the threshhold and an actual order is imposed. I wonder how short term lodging will be treated.
It is anticipated that the Greater Sacramento Region--which includes Nevada and Placer Counties--will reach the threshhold in the next few days. I guess we'll have to wait and see how the ski areas are treated.
Not actually that different from current purple tier restrictions. 20% vs 25% retail capacity, whatever that means, and takeout only. And all the people who have been gathering will keep gathering no doubt.

I watched the Livestream, skiing was specifically mentioned as being allowed FWIW.

Some planned resort operational stuff just got kicked down the street. Not sure it’s related, but the coincident is obvious.

Maybe the governor will limit the number of reservations without shutting resorts down. Resort skiing if done with proper precautions should not contribute to community spread. Of course the problem is that people have not been good at following proper precautions...

^^^^ Resorts might be less inspired to stay open if their skier numbers drop by mandate. If hotels get shut down, then there will be a precipitous drop in BA folks looking to come up. Unless of course they already bought a home or season leased. Not that there is any snow in the forecast. If I were a resort, maybe would think about closing down until there is more snow anyway. But I type that with no intentions of hiding up to go ski, so,...

Strip clubs are 'essential'. Prove me wrong.

kirkwood is 180 miles one way for me.. so a day trip technically requires a 14 day quarantine because of the 150 mile limit? Starting to think about requesting a refund on the ol' epic pass but not sure what to do yet.. I can't quite come to terms with bailing on the entire season but things aren't trending in the right direction at all.
I personally would probably just ignore the 150 mile thing but taking my kids up might get them kicked off the swim team if their coaches found out since they are strictly following the county rules..

Pate de foie gras. Was that in his press conf, or is there a site with more info. In the spring when the hotels were on infrastructure support only, the STR's were closed. I don't know if that was a state rule or a county rule. (Nevada County)
I wonder who is working at the resorts. The two days I've been out some of the workers have been very young--probably local people who live with their parents-- and some pretty old. Seems like they are potentially providing needed employment for out of work and out of school locals.
Yesterday at Alpine some kid with a bullhorn was getting serious about people not using the ski school gate on Roundhouse to save some of the walk up from the lodge--even though there was absolutely zero line.
Once a region goes on shutdown it stays on it a minimum of 3 weeks, and the shutdown starts 2 days after it is imposed. In other words--just about through xmas and close to or until New Years. That sneaky old govenor figured out a way to shut down xmas without Trump declaring a fatwa on him.

I know at least one ski hill MD that resides in the South Bay. I wonder what he’ll be doing. Perhaps he’s essential travel....
The state’s new method is based on regional hospital overload. Doesn’t Tahoe-truckee ship folks to Reno?

That actually doesn’t look half-bad. Sounds like the snow is starting to get pretty shitty and faceted now, though. How was avoiding obstacles?

A close buddy’s wife is nursing director at a hospital here in Reno. Staffing shortage is the first way medical rationing is beginning here in washoe county. Throughout the summer it felt very different being in Nevada vs California. We are beginning to see the results of that difference now
I pray we all have some reverence for what so many are suffering through.
I will keep skiing but don’t hold it against any bureaucrat or elected official to say we can’t gather in lift lines. We (society not skiers particularly) have failed each other.
Powder kept me sane in March, good turns into April.
Well the snow sucks now and the covid sucks, but I won’t take my anger out on others
Tomorrow morning before work will be day 13 on skis
Yes the snow will suck but I will be grateful to breath great heaping lungfuls of mountain air at sunrise. Nice view of the lake too.

Yup.
For skiing, the sticky bit, as has been noted, is the "Go". Considered alongside the stay-at-home a bit of a mixed message, that.
There's a section "Additional Considerations for Ski Operators" starting on page 14 in this PDF...
https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/gui...eation--en.pdf
Of course being dated 12/01 could be completely irrelevant by tomorrow.

Went for a quick tour up Incline peak and found some light sugary snow still in north facing trees but WTF is up with the amount of dog shit all along the skin track! I mean goddamn there's a lot of shit out there! Oh and the boot packing post holes in every skin track was just impressive. This new crowd is dedicated I'll give em that.
Praying for a refresh...mostly to save myself from literally eating shit. Then again I'll probably just be hopping on the snow pony more and avoid the land mines all together.
