Not sure if you've got a pass, but day tickets are sold out for the next two days. In terms of skiing, the east winds hosed some areas and helped others. It's a mixed bag but good times can be had if you look hard enough.

I just kind of got going with the touring this year since I felt like there was no base until last week. Today I thought I'd find sastrugi and mank, and I did.

Due north was still holding very nice settled powder though, at least above 7k.

Now sitting on my west facing deck in the Carson Valley in a T shirt.... The mank monster is hard at work up there.Click image for larger version.

Did 4 runs all on different sides of red lake today. No reason to think it won't be good again tomorrow.

So Squaw says they will not give A-Basin passholders a discount. So much for that plan.

"Purchase lift tickets at Mountain Collective resorts at 50% off the window price" is a listed passholder benefit.

Is yours a full pass? If so it clearly states that is a benefit.

Yes. Double down even. Squaw said something about not honoring it due to covid limits on number of tickets so I guess they only want to sell full price? Doesn't seem fair...

    Yeah that's BS.
    I assumed
*All benefits subject to operational ability under public health restrictions.
just refers to the possibility of them getting shut down. To use it as way to unnecessarily reneg on pass benefits is crappy at best.

I believe that SVAM is sold out for the weekend for day tickets. The only exception is Friends and Family tickets purchased by pass holders. The can only be purchased "day of use" in person by the pass holder. Unfortunately this has led to some of the overcrowding on busy days. I've been approached in the parking lot twice now to buy tickets for those that couldn't get them.
    Fuck those fucking motherfuckers!

The issue was not that they were full on a given day, it was just that they didn't want to honor the discount on days that were not yet sold out.

Lines at Sugar Bowl not too bad this morning considering how crowded it is around here this weekend. Managed to catch the first chair of the season on Summit. I don’t think I even rode it once last season since it spins so infrequently. Some great turns, some not so great.

    Great pics TahoeJ!

Some pics and conditions from today:

Not sure why I post this detail, since most of y’all are in tahoe, but incase there’s others out there like me that don't ski there everyday, here’s the conditions details:
Above treeline – All aspects we saw were wind scoured/windbuff from the recent N, E and earlier S winds. But edge-able and still dry on N and even E aspects exposed to the wind.
N facing trees down to 7k was dense, dry, yet still awesome powder. Still lots of untracked.
We took sweat hill side and checked on the S facing @8k: had only 1 inch of melt freeze, not ready to harvest. But with days like today, prolly not too far in the future. Manzanita starting to poke out on S aspects. Shoulda took the Skin track on the Avy path side instead – the dry/wet/dry transition on the ridge route was no bueno for globing up. Perfect day for Glob Stopper.
E facing lower elev. Is still transitional/mash potatoes, etc.

Everyone and their mom was doing the Cross today, riding the windbuff remaining from the wind scouring. Still lots of untracked in CS trees, so we did N bowl and hit that. Even Skier’s L side of Sweat hill was really nice. If anyone here was in the party doing the cross, I have a couple pics of other folks. Not great, but hey, I was eating my sandwich at the time 😊
    Overall great day.

Good day for some exercise by round top and the sisters, found windboard with a few soft turns mixed in. Deadwood looking like it needs more snow to be worth the approach.
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy

It was a fun day. He was pretty stoked. He felt "cool" on the skinner because I make him nerd out on videos like "The Fifty," and he really dug the snow conditions.

Ding, ding, ding. Definitely not ideal. I almost picked up some old Moment Carsons from a friend and put some small old Fritchis from another friend on them. But Moment said that wouldn't work because the screws are too long for a kid's ski.

He'll hike 3-4 times a year? The Contours are fine for a 9-year-old size tour that many times a year.
Of course, he was stoked and now he wants to go get Incline south face next weekend. If he turns into the dude that hikes with me a bunch and progresses into some bigger things, then I'd reconsider.

^^^my thoughts exactly with the contours. Excited to get out there with him. If he decides he wants to do it more often/ go bigger then we will look for a different option. I like that the contours grow with his feet and turn his alpine skis into a four set up. Who cares if it is a lot heavier. He is young and it is good for his character.

So, had a great day and will post stoke but um, I got back to my car after dark and managed to drive off without my skis and also get all the way home to SF before realizing it.

Hopefully one of my friends in the area are able to get them for me before they disappear. I don’t want to broadcast where they are to the internet, but if one of you is dawn patrolling and comes across the volkl bmt94s and poles at a trailhead, those would be mine and I would be very grateful for you helping me retrieve them.

Reminds me of the time I put my skis unsecured on my roofrack, then executed a high speed u-turn onto highway 89. Luckily the sound of my skis crashing onto the highway alerted me to the situation before I got home.

A great day skiing is more potent than any drug I've encountered.
